The Environmental Services Attendant position is a vital role within this framework, focused on maintaining cleanliness with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail. This part-time, evening shift role (working from 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM) is designed to uphold the highest standards of hygiene in assigned areas of the hospital. Attendants ensure that patient safety and comfort are upheld by creating a clean, welcoming environment, complemented by courteous and professional interactions with patients and guests. The position is classified as non-exempt and offers a pay range of $20.51 to $26.25 per hour.

Key responsibilities include daily cleaning and sanitization of toilets, basins, showers, bathtubs, furniture, fixtures, doors, stairways, hallways, and other interior furnishings using approved cleaning supplies and procedures. The role requires inspection of areas for cleanliness during shifts, prompt correction of any deficiencies, and adherence to the established cleaning standards of St. Charles Health System. In addition, attendants are responsible for managing soiled linens, trash, and bio-medical waste, ensuring proper disposal in compliance with infection control standards.

This role also involves maintaining adequate supplies, equipment care and operation, and reporting any maintenance or safety concerns. Attendants contribute actively to quality improvement initiatives and are expected to embody the health system's vision, mission, and values in every aspect of their work. They support lean process improvements to enhance housekeeping efficiency and effectiveness continuously. Successful candidates for this position will be enrolled to complete CHEST certification within six months of hire, with coursework provided by St. Charles. High school diploma or GED is preferred but not required if equivalent experience is demonstrated. Prior professional janitorial or housekeeping experience is advantageous. The physical demands include standing, walking, lifting, bending, and other activities typical of cleaning roles, performed in environments that may present chemical, noise, or temperature challenges.
