With a mission rooted in love, compassion, and accountability, the organization aims to provide better health outcomes, better care, and better value to its patients. As part of its commitment to healthcare excellence, St. Charles Health System maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, guests, and caregivers through its Environmental Services department. This department plays a crucial role in upholding hospital cleanliness standards, ensuring infection prevention, and supporting an overall safe environment. The Environmental Services team follows strict protocols for cleaning and sanitization to align with the high standards expected within healthcare facilities.
The Environmental Services Attendant position at St. Charles Health System is a full-time role scheduled during the evening hours, specifically the second shift from 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM, including potential weekends and holidays, with a weekly commitment of 40 hours. This role offers a competitive pay range between $20.51 and $26.25 per hour, reflecting the level of responsibility and expertise required. Reporting to the Environmental Services Manager, the attendant will focus on maintaining cleanliness in assigned hospital areas, performing a variety of cleaning and sanitation tasks safely and efficiently.
The role demands an eye for detail, ensuring all surfaces such as floors, bathrooms, furniture, and fixtures are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected following St. Charles Health System’s Environmental Services standards. The attendant plays a vital part in fostering comfort and safety for patients and visitors, greeting individuals respectfully while upholding privacy and safety protocols. While this position does not include supervisory responsibilities, it requires proactive communication, especially concerning the status and maintenance of cleaning equipment, as well as reporting necessary repairs or service needs.
Candidates entering this role should be prepared to engage in continuous improvement activities to enhance the cleanliness and safety of the hospital environment and support organizational values such as teamwork, accountability, and compassion. The role includes handling various cleaning tasks such as waste removal, infectious waste labeling, floor care, and stocking supplies, employing personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety during these activities. The St. Charles Health System offers certification training providing the necessary CHEST certification required within six months of hire, nurturing professional development and compliance.
Overall, the Environmental Services Attendant role is essential in delivering a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment in one of the region’s leading healthcare providers. Candidates with prior janitorial or housekeeping experience, a strong work ethic, teamwork orientation, and a commitment to confidentiality and organizational ethics will find this position rewarding. It offers opportunities to contribute to public health through meticulous environmental management in a supportive healthcare setting, helping create America's healthiest community together.
