Job Description
The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is a renowned institution dedicated to providing innovative and inclusive museum experiences that inspire kindness, joy, creativity, and curiosity for visitors of all ages. Established with the mission to transform education, the museum serves as a vital community resource by forging connections with artists, community partners, and neighbors to advocate for children, youth, and families. The museum's vision extends beyond traditional exhibits to encourage diverse learning experiences, catering to multiple types of learners in a supportive and engaging environment. Committed to creating a welcoming atmosphere, the museum strives to foster an environment where every individual feels included and empowered through creative exploration and discovery.
This exciting position for an Events Staff member is a casual part-time role, classified as non-exempt hourly employment with a pay rate of $18.00 per hour. Reporting directly to the Events Operations Supervisor, this Union position plays an integral role within the museum’s event operations team. The primary responsibility of the Events Staff is to assist in the coordination and facilitation of special event rentals. This includes supporting the Events Operations Manager and Events Operations Supervisor in ensuring the smooth execution of events, primarily focusing on the setup and teardown of event equipment with precision and care.
Events Staff are tasked with the efficient loading, unloading, and safe transportation of event equipment to various venue spaces throughout the museum. This role demands a strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, public-facing environment where exceptional customer service is paramount. As an essential team member, the Events Staff ensures event spaces are properly prepared in accordance with pre-determined floor plans and compliance with relevant building and fire codes.
Additional duties include assembling seating and tables, setting up lighting and sound equipment, inspecting equipment for damage post-event, and maintaining a clean and organized event environment. The Events Staff must also be present on-site during events to monitor timelines, safety protocols, and overall service quality. This role requires adaptability to address unexpected challenges such as equipment malfunctions or last-minute client requests with professionalism and problem-solving skills.
Flexibility is key, as the Events Staff may be asked to cross-train across multiple departments and assist in related functions such as birthday party execution. The position involves working indoors as well as occasionally outdoors, under varied weather conditions. Physical requirements include the ability to lift or move items up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 65 pounds with assistance.
Candidates for this position should be prepared to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours on an as-needed basis with notice provided at least one month in advance. A commitment to following all museum policies, safety procedures, and contractual obligations is essential. The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh values diversity and inclusion and provides equal employment opportunities regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or any protected characteristic. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a community-centered organization dedicated to educational transformation and inclusive engagement for all visitors.
