Job Description

UC San Diego Temporary Employment Services is actively seeking dedicated and detail-oriented individuals to join their team as Events Specialists. UC San Diego, a prestigious university renowned for its commitment to research, education, and community engagement, offers a unique and dynamic working environment. Located at the East Campus in La Jolla, UC San Diego is a vibrant institution where innovation meets tradition, and where employees are valued for their contribution to the university's mission and culture.

The Events Specialist role at UC San Diego Temporary Employment Services is a temporary, full-time position designed for individuals who are interested in gaining practical experience in event planning and coordination. The role is hourly-paid with a competitive wage ranging from $26.50 to $31.00 per hour, providing an excellent opportunity for entry or associate-level professionals to deepen their skillset in a fast-paced, collaborative academic setting.

As part of the Events team, the specialist will support the smooth planning and execution of a wide variety of events, including symposiums, conferences, workshops, research programs, advisory board meetings, and VIP engagements. This position requires a thoughtful and proactive approach to event logistics, ensuring that all facets—from catering and transportation to media services and facilities—are coordinated efficiently. The specialist will work closely with campus partners and vendors to ensure event spaces meet specifications and are prepared for successful delivery.

This role offers hands-on exposure to event operations, requiring the ability to assist with room setups, aid in audiovisual and virtual meeting technologies such as Zoom, and provide on-site event support. The specialist will also contribute to tracking and reporting event data, including attendance, costs, and participant feedback, which is fundamental to improving future events. With guidance, the position will provide learning opportunities relating to event budgeting as well as logistical planning for both small and large events.

Working hours are primarily during the day from Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM, with occasional evening and weekend hours depending on the event schedule. Candidates must be able to commit to an on-site position at the East Campus in La Jolla, with reliable transportation access to attend events and assist with the logistics of supply pick-up and drop-off.

UC San Diego values diversity and inclusivity and encourages candidates from all backgrounds to apply. The university upholds a smoke and tobacco-free environment and follows a strict anti-discrimination and misconduct policy to promote a safe and respectful workplace for all employees. This role requires a background check and adherence to the university's vaccination program policies.

Joining UC San Diego Temporary Employment Services as an Events Specialist not only provides valuable experience within an esteemed academic institution but also opens pathways to further professional growth within event management fields. This temporary appointment is anticipated to last approximately 6 to 8 weeks and offers an excellent platform for those pursuing careers in event planning, public relations, or administrative coordination. The role not only demands solid organizational skills and attention to detail but also a friendly disposition and ability to provide excellent customer service to clients, colleagues, and campus partners.

Overall, the Events Specialist position at UC San Diego embodies an exciting career opportunity for motivated individuals seeking to refine their event coordination skills in a supportive, educational, and culturally rich environment. The role emphasizes teamwork, customer service, and logistical proficiency, all of which are critical in the successful delivery of campus-wide events that contribute to the university's excellence and community impact.
