The Temporary Employment Services department plays a critical role in providing flexible, short-term staffing solutions across the campus, helping to support various university functions and special projects, including events that span academic, health sciences, and community engagement sectors.
This role, Events Specialist 1, offers an exciting opportunity for individuals seeking to gain practical experience in event planning and coordination within a dynamic and fast-paced university setting. As a temporary appointment position with a competitive hourly pay rate ranging from $26.50 to $31.00, this role is full-time, requiring a 100% commitment with a work schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, primarily based at the East Campus in La Jolla. The position is designed to support a variety of university events, including symposiums, conferences, workshops, research programs, advisory board meetings, and VIP engagements, all essential to the university's mission of education, research, and public service.
The Events Specialist will be involved in multiple facets of event execution, including planning assistance, logistics support, and coordination with campus departments such as facilities, catering, media services, and transportation. This hands-on role is ideal for entry- or associate-level professionals looking to deepen their skills in event operations, learn practical applications of budgeting, and gain exposure to the full lifecycle of event management from conceptualization to post-event analysis. They will provide on-site support during events, handle audiovisual and virtual meeting technology needs, and assist in gathering and reporting event-related data like attendance, costs, and feedback.
This position emphasizes the development of organizational and customer service skills, interaction with diverse campus stakeholders, and the ability to manage schedules and details efficiently. Candidates must be prepared for occasional evening and weekend events, and possession of reliable transportation is necessary for supply pickups and travel to various campus locations. UC San Diego values diversity and inclusion, highly encouraging applicants from all backgrounds to apply and contribute to an enriching community that supports students, faculty, staff, and visitors alike.
