The Zoo is committed to providing exceptional service and meaningful engagement opportunities, hosting diverse events throughout the year that attract families, organizations, and individuals from the local area and beyond. The Zoo operates with a clear mission and vision to support wildlife preservation and community education while offering a vibrant and enjoyable destination for visitors. The workplace atmosphere values teamwork, safety, and excellence in service, encouraging employees to contribute positively to the organization's goals and guests' memorable experiences.

The role of Events Set Up is a part-time position within the Events department at Fresno Chaffee Zoo, reporting to the Events Assistant Manager. This dynamic role is integral to the successful execution of all Zoo events, encompassing duties from the physical set-up and breakdown of event spaces to contributing to exceptional guest service during events. The Events Set Up professional supports the Zoo's strategic objectives by ensuring all event infrastructure, such as tables, chairs, lighting, and equipment, are properly arranged and functional. Event Set Up associates also assist in the installation of seasonal exhibitions both onsite and offsite, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

This position requires a strong commitment to safety protocols, especially when handling equipment and heavy lifting, often necessitating teamwork for larger items. Events Set Up team members participate in safety and equipment training sessions to maintain operational standards and reduce risk. In addition to logistical support, the role demands excellent customer service skills as it involves interacting with guests, answering questions, and resolving issues professionally. Coordination with event managers and vendors is also a key responsibility, ensuring seamless event experiences. The role may extend to birthday party facilitation and operation of various machinery like forklifts and scissor lifts, subject to training.

Candidates should have experience in customer service and special event environments, with a preference for familiarity with event equipment operation. A valid California driver's license and compliance with the Zoo's driver's training requirements are mandatory. The position involves physical labor including lifting up to 75 pounds and navigating uneven terrain, requiring good physical condition for the role's demands.

As a valued team member, Events Set Up associates benefit from the Zoo's Employee Assistance Program, 401K, and paid California sick time. The hourly pay rate ranges from $17.78 to $18.66, dependent on experience. This job provides a vibrant, active work environment that combines physical activity with opportunities for community engagement and contribution to meaningful conservation efforts. The setting offers both indoor and outdoor work with exposure to varying weather conditions and close proximity to Zoo animals, requiring flexibility and stamina.
