Job Description

Tanglewood Music Center, originally known as Berkshire Music Center, has been a vibrant hub for world-class music since its inception in 1940. Nestled in the scenic town of Lenox, Massachusetts, it is the summer home to the Boston Symphony Orchestra, one of the most prestigious orchestras globally. Tanglewood is renowned for hosting the acclaimed Tanglewood Music Festival, an event that attracts over 350,000 visitors annually. The festival is celebrated not only for its classical offerings but also for its diverse range of musical styles, including jazz, pop, and the Festival of Contemporary Music. It offers an unparalleled level of artistic excellence and brings together audiences and artists from around the world in a shared celebration of music and culture.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra is currently seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals to join its Event Services team as seasonal Event Set Up Assistants. This role is centered around the preparation and execution of various events held at the Tanglewood grounds. The Event Set Up Assistant will play an essential role in setting up and breaking down equipment and facilities for a wide range of events including dining services, elegant galas, weddings, backstage catering, private parties, internal company events, and even unique activities like yoga on the lawn. This position demands an individual who is detail-oriented, capable of physical labor, and flexible in scheduling to accommodate the dynamic nature of events throughout the season.

This seasonal position is ideal for candidates seeking an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event management and logistics within a prestigious cultural institution. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, physically fit to lift between 50 to 100 pounds, and possess a valid driver’s license. Flexibility to work weekends and occasional overtime hours is required to support the diverse and bustling event schedule at Tanglewood. While housing is not provided, the position offers a unique chance to be part of one of the most beloved music festivals in the United States and collaborate with the well-respected Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Job Duties

  • Set up and breakdown of all events on Tanglewood grounds
  • set up dining service areas, galas, weddings, backstage catering, private parties and internal events
  • assist with event logistics including yoga on the lawn and other special activities
  • maintain cleanliness and orderliness of event areas
  • coordinate with the event services team for smooth event execution
  • transport and arrange furniture and equipment as needed
  • ensure compliance with safety standards during all event setups and breakdowns
