Job Description

The Downtown Family YMCA, located in the heart of Boise, Idaho, is a longstanding community landmark that has been serving families and individuals since 1964. As a part of the YMCA of Treasure Valley, this facility offers a wide range of fitness and recreational amenities including a full court basketball gym, a large cardio fitness center, multiple strength training rooms, racquetball courts, a climbing wall, five fitness studios, three swimming pools, and various youth programming areas. The YMCA is deeply committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for people of all ages and backgrounds, aligning with its core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. This makes it not just a fitness center, but a vital community hub that promotes wellness, healthy living, and social connection within the Boise metropolitan area.

The YMCA's Event and Races Team is currently seeking passionate and detail-oriented Race Timing Specialists to support the execution of race events hosted by the Downtown Boise YMCA. This is a part-time, irregular-schedule position requiring 1 to 20 hours per week, predominantly on event days and preparation days leading up to events. Race Timing Specialists will be responsible for all aspects of race timing, ensuring precise administration of timing systems during various YMCA race events. This role requires technical proficiency and a calm, solution-oriented mindset to smoothly handle any issues that arise during the event.

As a Race Timing Specialist, you will be instrumental in the setup, operation, troubleshooting, and takedown of timing systems and equipment. You will work closely with the Events Director, supporting their efforts by ensuring that the timing systems are fully tested and operational prior to the start of events. The role demands keen attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively to manage the timing system and race production simultaneously. Your responsibilities will include testing the timing equipment to guarantee proper functioning, managing the timing system throughout the event, providing timely support with any technical difficulties or errors, and carefully returning all equipment to storage after use to maintain its longevity.

The ideal candidate for this role must bring a high level of technical skill with proficiency in Microsoft Office and a strong understanding of databases. Experience with event timing software, particularly ChronoTrack and RunSignUp, is essential to successfully plan and administer race timing protocols. This position is perfect for individuals who thrive in dynamic, event-driven environments and are committed to delivering a seamless race experience for participants and the YMCA community. Your role will directly contribute to the positive reputation and success of YMCA race events, enhancing participant satisfaction and promoting community engagement.

The YMCA values diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and participants. The organization encourages applicants from all backgrounds who demonstrate a commitment to its core values and community mission. The Downtown Family YMCA provides a unique opportunity to be part of a respected nonprofit dedicated to health, wellness, and youth development, while gaining valuable experience in event timing and race management. If you have a passion for technology, sports, and community engagement, joining the YMCA’s Event and Races Team as a Race Timing Specialist could be a highly rewarding opportunity.
