Job Description

United Way of Greenville County is a longstanding nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families throughout Greenville County and its surrounding communities, including Greer, Mauldin, Simpsonville, Fountain Inn, Travelers Rest, Berea, Judson, Gantt, Sans Souci, and Taylors. For over 100 years, United Way of Greenville County has mobilized people and resources to foster safer, healthier, and more successful lives. The organization is deeply committed to advancing equity, strengthening the community, and enhancing access to opportunities that enable all residents to achieve their full potential. United Way of Greenville County operates under a vision of unity, collaboration, and impact, driven by its core STAR values which emphasize Support, Trust, Act, and Reflect in all its endeavors.

The Events Manager role plays a pivotal part in progressing United Way’s mission by orchestrating the planning, coordination, and execution of impactful community and donor engagement events. This full-time, exempt position reports directly to the Chief Philanthropy Officer and offers competitive compensation that reflects prior experience and qualifications. The Events Manager is instrumental in leading a variety of signature events—including Hands on Greenville Day, School Tools, Grateful GVL, and Project Joy—which unite donors, volunteers, corporate partners, and community leaders. This role demands a strategic thinker and skilled project manager who can collaborate effectively across departments such as Philanthropy, Corporate Engagement, Marketing & Communications, Volunteer Engagement, and Community Impact to ensure that the events align with organizational goals and fundraising strategies.

Beyond tactical execution, the Events Manager ensures that every event experience reflects the United Way brand, values, and its commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Responsibilities include developing detailed event plans, timelines, budgets, and run-of-show documents to sustain exceptional quality and consistency. With a hands-on approach, the Events Manager manages all logistical facets including venues, vendors, contracts, catering, audiovisual requirements, rentals, and on-site coordination as the primary event lead. The role requires troubleshooting event-day challenges with adaptability, professionalism, and a proactive mindset.

A key attribute of this position is the ability to build, maintain, and nurture relationships with external vendors, sponsors, and community partners to ensure strategic sponsor recognition and stewardship. The Events Manager is also tasked with budget development and monitoring to guarantee cost efficiency, along with thorough evaluations of event success using metrics such as attendance, engagement, and financial outcomes. Post-event reporting and recommendations are integral to continuous improvement.

The United Way culture encourages creativity, accountability, and excellence while emphasizing teamwork and stakeholder engagement. This position requires occasional evening and weekend work due to event schedules and reflects a commitment to best-in-class event management practices that foster community impact and donor satisfaction. Candidates who thrive in dynamic environments, possess strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills, and have experience coordinating multiple high-profile events will find this an exciting and rewarding opportunity. United Way of Greenville County prioritizes a diverse and inclusive workplace, reflecting the community it serves.
