Job Description
Rise Against Hunger is a global nonprofit organization committed to ending hunger worldwide by empowering communities and responding swiftly to emergencies. The organization mobilizes a vast network of volunteers who produce millions of nutritious meals annually, which are distributed to vulnerable populations across various countries. With a focus on collaboration and community-driven solutions, Rise Against Hunger engages individuals, faith-based groups, businesses, and educational institutions in meaningful meal packaging events. These initiatives not only help provide sustenance but also raise awareness about global hunger issues, fostering a sense of purpose and community involvement.
Rise Against Hunger's Donor Engagement team is at the forefront of recruiting and coordinating volunteers for these impactful events. The team works diligently to create engaging experiences tailored for different groups, making volunteers feel valued and motivated to contribute. Within this vibrant and mission-driven environment, the Events Manager plays a vital role in ensuring that all meal packing events operate seamlessly. The position offers an hourly wage starting at $25.00 and involves working in a dynamic, fast-paced nonprofit setting.
As the Events Manager, you will be responsible for the execution, logistics, and smooth operational flow of Rise Against Hunger's volunteer meal packing events. The role requires strong leadership skills to guide volunteers through setup and event execution, managing both small and medium-sized gatherings ranging from 50 to 200 participants. You will oversee warehouse operations, coordinate event resources, and tackle complex challenges to ensure each event meets organizational standards and leaves hosts satisfied. This hands-on role is crucial to carrying out daily operations and maintaining a well-organized event calendar with proper staffing and adequate resources.
Your daily activities will include facilitating 4 to 12 volunteer-led meal packaging events monthly, training staff and volunteers on packaging procedures, and adjusting assignments to optimize productivity. You will also drive the transportation of raw materials and equipment using box trucks, operate pallet jacks and forklifts, and manage inventory documentation such as invoices, bill of ladings, and receipts. This position demands a high degree of multitasking, problem-solving, and communication skills as you build and nurture partnerships with diverse organizations including religious congregations, businesses, and community groups. Your efforts in partnership development will help secure financial support, create new opportunities, and enhance the organization's reach.
The role requires flexibility with work hours, including weekends and evenings, and involves extensive local travel, typically 50-60 percent of the time. Physical stamina is essential as the job involves standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally moving heavier items using warehouse equipment. Candidates must be prepared to work in a warehouse environment where conditions may not be climate-controlled and noise levels can be moderate to loud.
Rise Against Hunger values diversity, inclusivity, and a collaborative spirit. You will have the opportunity to work in a supportive environment that encourages innovation, learning from experimentation, and adapting to shifting demands. Your contributions will directly support the organization's mission to end global hunger and improve lives around the world.
If you thrive in a mission-driven workplace, enjoy leadership roles involving volunteer coordination and event management, and are passionate about making a tangible difference, this position offers a rewarding career path with Rise Against Hunger.
