Job Description
Wings Over the Rockies is a renowned Colorado-based non-profit organization that stands as the official Air and Space Museum of Colorado. Established in 1994 and located in Denver’s historic Lowry neighborhood, Wings Over the Rockies offers visitors nearly 100,000 square feet of world-class historical and educational exhibits. The museum’s collection includes more than 60 impressive aircraft and spacecraft, alongside exciting stories, personalities, and events related to the history and advancements in aviation and space exploration. Wings operates as one entity with two distinct locations: the primary museum in Denver and the Exploration of Flight at Centennial Airport, which opened in 2018. The latter features 18,000 square feet of interactive experiences and specializes in aviation-focused events. These locations collectively attract visitors from all 50 states and more than 34 countries, emphasizing Wings Over the Rockies’ role in inspiring education and excitement about aviation and space endeavors of the past, present, and future.
The Events Manager at Wings Over the Rockies plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless delivery of high-quality events at both the Air & Space Museum and the Exploration of Flight locations. This role is characterized by a hands-on, shift-based approach focusing on day-of-event operations rather than direct people management. The Events Manager is responsible for coordinating on-site event execution and logistics, including orchestrating the efforts of Wings staff, volunteers, and external vendors like catering, A/V, entertainment, and security. The position demands keen attention to event logistics such as deliveries, traffic flow, load-in and setup, troubleshooting in real-time, and ensuring a smooth event closure.
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Sales & Events and working closely with the Event Sales and Operations Manager, Facilities teams, and other cross-functional groups, the Events Manager contributes to creating a consistent and exceptional guest experience. The role requires flexibility, as shifts are variable and may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, with shift assignments awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the variable frequency of events and external factors like client cancellations, weather conditions, and Museum closures, work availability may fluctuate. The position offers part-time employment at $19.00 per hour with a $4.00 per hour shift differential premium for night shifts between midnight and 6 am. Benefits include membership to the museum and other museums as well as paid sick time.
The Events Manager must embody strong leadership and communication skills, maintain professionalism during high-pressure situations, and demonstrate a proactive, solution-oriented approach to problem-solving. Physical demands include the ability to walk extensive distances within large exhibit spaces and remain standing for extended periods, as well as the capacity to push, pull, squat, and lift over 35 pounds. The role also emphasizes safeguarding museum assets and exhibits, compliance with applicable policies like alcohol service guidelines, and responsiveness to incidents or emergencies following established protocols. Overall, the Events Manager is essential in maintaining the safety, readiness, and exceptional quality of events that engage and thrill visitors from around the world.
