Job Description

Wings Over the Rockies is a renowned Colorado-based non-profit organization that serves as Colorado's official Air and Space Museum. Established in 1994, Wings Over the Rockies is dedicated to educating, inspiring, and exciting people of all ages about the rich history, present developments, and future potential of aviation and space exploration. The organization operates from two distinct locations: the historic Lowry neighborhood in Denver, featuring a vast 100,000 square foot facility with world-class historical and educational exhibits, and the Exploration of Flight site at Centennial Airport, which opened in 2018 and offers 18,000 square feet of interactive experiences with a strong focus on aviation events. These locations collectively showcase more than 60 impressive aircraft and spacecraft, complementing detailed stories, personalities, and events that highlight various aspects of aviation and space endeavors. Wings Over the Rockies attracts visitors from all 50 states and over 34 countries, making it a highly respected cultural and educational destination.

The Events Manager position at Wings Over the Rockies plays a pivotal role in ensuring the flawless delivery of events across both museum sites. This part-time, hands-on role is shift-based, encompassing a variable schedule including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, awarded on a first-come/first-serve basis. The position focuses on the operational and logistical management of events rather than direct personnel supervision. As an Events Manager, you will lead day-of-event activities such as coordinating Wings staff members, volunteers, and external vendors, including catering, audio-visual teams, entertainment, and security, ensuring a seamless experience for guests and clients. Responsibilities include overseeing event logistics like deliveries, load-in and set-up, traffic flow, troubleshooting issues in real time, and ensuring events close smoothly and securely. The role also requires maintaining facility readiness and security by opening and securing event spaces and following safety protocols to protect museum assets and provide a respectful environment for all attendees.

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Sales and Events, Events Managers collaborate closely with the Corporate Events team as well as cross-functional partners like Event Sales, Operations, and Facilities departments to deliver exceptional guest experiences. Working in the historical aircraft hangar environment and regional airport location presents unique operational challenges including large physical spaces and diverse environmental conditions. The job demands physical stamina, with the need to walk extensive distances indoors, stand for up to 10 hours, and handle physical activities such as lifting over 35 pounds. The Events Manager must be capable of navigating the fast-paced, dynamic nature of event day environments, effectively multi-tasking, communicating clearly, and solving problems proactively.

This role offers compensation at $19.00 per hour, with an additional $4 per hour shift differential for night shifts between midnight and 6 am. Wings Over the Rockies supports work-life balance by offering benefits such as museum membership and paid sick time. Reasonable accommodations are available to ensure individuals with disabilities can perform essential job functions. If you are passionate about aviation, space, and community engagement, and thrive in energetic event environments, this position provides an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful contribution at a prestigious institution that inspires thousands through aviation history and technology every year.
