The Event Coordinator role at Michaels in Bay-Mountain View, CA, plays a pivotal part in creating memorable and enjoyable experiences within the store environment. This position focuses on planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events such as children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and special gatherings that help bring the Michaels brand to life. The coordinator ensures that these events run smoothly, providing guests with a fun, stress-free, and engaging environment. This involves everything from event setup and breakdown to direct interaction and instruction of participants, including crafting demonstrations and activities like face painting. The coordinator also manages event logistics including communication with clients and store teams, administrative duties, and contingency planning for unexpected changes.

In addition to event management, this role includes delivering exemplary customer service by assisting shoppers, facilitating efficient checkout processes, and promoting engagement with Michaels’ loyalty programs and credit cards. The coordinator is also responsible for various operational tasks such as unloading shipments, stocking merchandise, performing store recovery duties, and maintaining cleanliness standards to ensure the store meets company expectations for safety and quality.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in event coordination or customer service

Job Duties

  • Plan and coordinate multiple events including kids birthday parties and craft classes
  • engage clients by creating a fun and creative environment
  • demonstrate and instruct participants in craft projects and activities like face painting
  • facilitate party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons
  • communicate events with clients and team members
  • complete administrative tasks including emails, phone calls, and paperwork
  • adjust plans based on client feedback
  • create backup plans
  • ensure client satisfaction
  • uphold cleanliness and safety standards by setting up and cleaning before and after events
  • help customers shop and locate products
  • provide fast and friendly checkout experience
  • promote and enroll customers in Rewards and Credit Card programs
  • educate customers on Voice of Customer surveys
  • assist with Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store processes
  • participate in truck unloading, stocking, and planogram duties
  • complete merchandise recovery
  • support shrink and safety programs
  • comply with Standard Operating Procedures and company policies
  • maintain positive and respectful interactions
  • cross-train in Custom Framing selling and production
  • participate in daily store cleaning activities
  • perform other duties as assigned
