The Michaels Companies, Inc. is a leading arts and crafts retail company operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as online platforms Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels serves as the premier destination for creativity and celebration. Besides its retail presence, the company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels is dedicated to inspiring guests through creativity and making crafting accessible to everyone, from beginners to experienced artists. The company is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where creativity fuels joy and community. As an employer, Michaels prioritizes the well-being of its team members by offering robust benefits, including health insurance options, paid time off, tuition assistance programs, and generous employee discounts, available to both full-time and part-time employees. Michaels welcomes all applicants, emphasizing equal opportunities and accommodations to support diverse talents within its workforce. Located in Reno, NV, the Michaels store is currently seeking an Event Coordinator to play a vital role in enhancing the customer experience through organizing memorable crafting events and parties within the store.
The Event Coordinator at Michaels in Reno will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of engaging events such as children’s birthday parties and crafting classes designed to provide a stress-free, enjoyable, and creative environment for guests of all ages, spanning from young children to seniors. This role demands a passionate and energetic individual with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, able to handle multiple event details simultaneously while maintaining excellent communication with clients and store staff. The Event Coordinator will demonstrate craftsmanship by instructing participants, offering hands-on activities including face painting, and managing additional event elements like goody bags and balloons, all adhering to company standards. Administrative responsibilities include managing inquiries, scheduling, and documentation to ensure smooth event operation. The coordinator must be flexible to adjust plans based on client feedback and proactively develop backup plans for unforeseen circumstances to guarantee satisfaction.
Customer engagement is a key component of this role. The Event Coordinator helps customers navigate the store, find products, and enjoy perks such as the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards. A fast and friendly checkout service complements the customer experience, alongside participation in inventory-related processes like truck unloading and merchandise stocking. The role also requires cross-training in Custom Framing selling and production, supporting store cleanliness and safety programs, and complying with Standard Operating Procedures and company policies. This full involvement ensures the Michaels brand promise of quality service and creative inspiration is upheld consistently.
Physically, this position involves standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, and performing tasks such as lifting, reaching, and using ladders to access stock. The work environment includes a retail store setting with climate-controlled public areas and may include some outdoor duties and work in stockrooms and frame shops with specialized equipment. This position operates with both fixed schedules and flexibility for nights, weekends, and early mornings, reflecting the dynamic retail setting.
Michaels offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $12.75 to $15.00 per hour for this position, reflecting the value they place on talent that contributes positively to customer experiences and operational success. The company’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and accommodation ensures that all team members have the support needed to excel. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about creativity, customer service, and event coordination within a vibrant retail environment focused on crafting and celebration.
