Job Description
Michaels is the leading destination for creativity and celebration in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as online at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has established itself as the best place for all things creative. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels is dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity by providing a wide array of craft supplies, tools, and event services to customers of all ages. The company's mission centers on enabling customers to bring their artistic ideas to life in a welcoming, supportive environment.
At the RAL-Brier Creek Parkway, NC location, Michaels is seeking a dedicated Event Coordinator to create memorable experiences for customers through planning and facilitating events such as children’s birthday parties and craft classes. This role is pivotal in ensuring guests enjoy stress-free, fun, and engaging celebrations within the store. In addition to coordinating events, the individual will deliver exceptional customer service by assisting shoppers in finding products and ensuring swift, friendly checkouts. The role also involves operational responsibilities such as truck unloading, merchandise stocking, and maintaining store organization to uphold Michaels' Brand Promises.
The Event Coordinator will manage multiple events simultaneously, engaging clients of all ages—from toddlers to seniors—by fostering a fun and creative atmosphere. This involves demonstrating craft project instructions, performing activities like face painting, and coordinating additional party components such as goody bags and balloons. Effective communication with clients and team members is essential, along with completing administrative tasks that include answering emails, making calls, and paperwork. The position demands flexibility to adjust plans based on client feedback and develop contingency plans as necessary, always aiming to ensure client satisfaction.
Customer experience is a top priority, with duties that include assisting customers with product location and solutions, promoting Michaels’ Rewards program and credit card enrollments, educating customers about feedback surveys, and supporting omni-channel processes like Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). The coordinator will also engage in store operations such as truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery, planogram compliance, and stock optimization. Adherence to safety, shrink prevention, and standard operating procedures ensures a compliant and secure retail environment.
The role demands excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to remain positive and respectful even under pressure, and the capacity to serve as a role model for the team. Cross-training in custom framing sales and production is also part of the job, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the store's offerings. The Event Coordinator will actively participate in daily store cleanliness, including dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, and restroom maintenance, enhancing the shopping environment.
Michaels values energetic and enthusiastic personality traits, along with strong communication and organizational abilities. Experience working with children and managing children’s events is essential, as is retail or customer service experience. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for long periods, move throughout the store, and perform tasks involving bending, lifting, carrying, and reaching. Some duties involve handling heavy boxes and using equipment like ladders.
The work environment is a public retail space with climate-controlled customer areas and some stock rooms that may not be climate controlled. Outdoor tasks such as cart retrieval and truck unloading may be required, and safety considerations are emphasized, especially in the frame shop area that contains specialized equipment. Work hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings, reflecting the retail industry's demands.
Michaels is committed to equal opportunity employment and inclusive practices. The company provides reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities to ensure full participation in the application process, job duties, and access to benefits. For those seeking more information or requiring accommodations, Michaels offers dedicated support through their customer care services.
Overall, the Event Coordinator role at Michaels is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about creativity, customer service, and event management within a vibrant retail setting. It combines artistic engagement with operational responsibilities to deliver unparalleled experiences and maintain the high standards for which Michaels is known.
