Job Description

The Michaels Companies, Inc. is a leading creative destination in North America, renowned for fueling the joy of creativity across its vast network of over 1,300 stores throughout the United States and Canada. Headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels provides an extensive range of arts and crafts supplies, custom framing services, and handmade goods marketplaces through its associated brands like Artistree and MakerPlace by Michaels. Since its founding in 1973, Michaels has grown into a trusted brand for creative individuals and families, offering everything needed to bring artistic and craft projects to life. The company prides itself on its commitment to customer satisfaction, team member wellbeing, and community engagement, making it a preferred employer and shopping destination for arts and crafts enthusiasts.

This role is based in the Michaels store located in Lufkin, Texas, and involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events within the store, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes tailored to guests of all ages. The position is pivotal in creating a stress-free, fun, and engaging environment where customers can enjoy creative experiences. It provides an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about customer service, event coordination, and arts and crafts to utilize their skills to enhance the shopping and event experience. This multifaceted role also incorporates operational tasks such as merchandise stocking, unloading trucks, maintaining store appearance, and supporting shrink and safety protocols to align with company standards.

Candidates will be expected to handle multiple events simultaneously, demonstrating creativity, organizational skills, and interpersonal effectiveness. They will facilitate craft instruction, face painting, and the implementation of party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons, adapting plans to meet customer feedback and ensuring overall client satisfaction. Administrative duties like communication with clients and store teams, managing emails and schedules, and creating contingency plans are also part of the role. The coordinator must uphold cleanliness and safety standards, including setting up and cleaning up around events, and participate in daily store maintenance tasks.

The position requires energetic, enthusiastic individuals with excellent people skills, experience with children’s events, and the ability to cope with stress while maintaining a positive, respectful demeanor. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, move throughout the store, and perform tasks involving lifting, reaching, and bending. The retail environment is climate-controlled, and work hours may involve nights, weekends, and early mornings.

Michaels is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, offering reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities throughout the hiring and employment process. The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer dedicated to fostering an inclusive culture where all team members and customers feel valued and respected.
