Job Description
The Columbus Consolidated Government is a well-established public sector organization dedicated to serving the community of Columbus, Georgia. It manages a variety of municipal services and facilities, including operations at the Trade Center located at 801 Front Avenue. The Trade Center serves as a premier venue for conventions, trade shows, corporate events, and community gatherings. Within this dynamic environment, the Columbus Consolidated Government is known for fostering a supportive work atmosphere with a commitment to public service and employee development. The government offers competitive wages, robust benefits, and opportunities to contribute directly to the well-being and smooth functioning of city services and events.
This full-time regular position offers an hourly wage of $15.60 and is based at the Trade Center. The role is primarily focused on participating in the operational functions required to facilitate events and maintain the cleanliness and readiness of the Convention and Trade Center facilities. Responsibilities include a combination of hands-on custodial duties, event setup and breakdown, grounds maintenance, and occasional assistance with loading and unloading equipment. Employees in this role are essential to ensuring that the venue is visually presentable, safe, and well-maintained before, during, and after events.
The ideal candidate will play an integral role in supporting the Trade Center's day-to-day operations by keeping administrative offices, restrooms, public areas, and event spaces clean and orderly. This includes vacuuming, dusting, emptying trash, polishing fixtures, and mopping floors. Additionally, the position requires the setup of rooms according to specific event diagrams, involving the arrangement of tables, chairs, risers, stages, dance floors, podiums, audiovisual equipment, and lighting. After events conclude, the candidate will break down these setups and ensure all equipment is properly stored. Grounds maintenance duties such as trash pickup, window cleaning, pressure washing walkways, and ash urn emptying are also part of the job.
Physical requirements demand a versatile individual capable of intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping, with some lifting of light to heavy objects. The work environment can involve exposure to machinery with moving parts, cleaning chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions. As such, candidates must possess a good degree of physical fitness and dexterity, along with the ability to distinguish colors and perform basic mathematical calculations. Experience or familiarity with audiovisual equipment operation and the use of cleaning machinery such as sweepers, scrubbers, and vacuum cleaners is highly advantageous.
This role offers an important opportunity to engage with a respected governmental employer offering a comprehensive compensation package. Recognized benefits include low-cost medical insurance, prescription drug and dental plans, vision coverage, flexible spending accounts, life and supplemental life insurance, long-term disability, and retirement plans. Employees can also access a variety of additional perks such as paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, retirement savings options, and unique city service discounts. The Columbus Consolidated Government values its workforce by providing career growth opportunities through training and supportive work policies, making it an excellent choice for individuals seeking stable employment in a cooperative and community-focused environment.
