Job Description
Fresno's Chaffee Zoo Corporation (FCZC) is a renowned zoological institution dedicated to wildlife conservation, education, and fostering community connections. As an educational and conservation-driven organization, FCZC provides unique experiences that inspire guests to appreciate and protect wildlife and their habitats. The zoo hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including group outings, special seasonal events, birthday parties, and educational programs. These events play an important role in engaging our local community and enhancing the guest experience, while also supporting the zoo's mission through revenue-generating initiatives.
We are currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Events Assistant to join our team on a seasonal basis from September 2026 through February 2027. This part-time position offers an hourly wage ranging between $17.78 and $18.66, based on experience, along with valuable benefits such as an Employee Assistance Program, 401K, and paid California Sick Time. The Events Assistant will be an integral part of our events team, providing essential operational support at a variety of functions. Our ideal candidate will be an entry-level professional eager to contribute to well-organized and memorable events that foster meaningful community engagement and support the zoo’s educational and conservation goals.
The Events Assistant will work closely under the guidance of FCZC’s experienced event coordinators to plan, coordinate, and execute diverse events that include Member Perks, Animal Days, community celebrations, and birthday parties. Responsibilities include assisting with event setup and breakdown, managing guest check-ins, facilitating vendor communications, tracking event budgets and attendance, and supporting administrative duties such as booking, expense coding, and inventory management. This role requires strong organizational abilities as the successful candidate will handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while delivering exceptional guest service.
Beyond logistics, the Events Assistant serves as a frontline representative of the zoo, providing consistent and professional interaction with guests, clients, vendors, and volunteers to ensure a positive event atmosphere. The role also involves occasional site tours, inventory management, and participating in safety and equipment training. The candidate will be responsible for managing event guest experience, responding to concerns promptly, and reporting any security or medical issues according to established protocols.
Physical stamina and ability to engage in active duties are essential, as this position involves lifting up to 75 pounds, walking several miles per shift, working at elevated heights, and operating a vehicle for business purposes. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when needed is required to meet the demands of scheduled events. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable event coordination experience in a dynamic, community-focused environment that supports wildlife conservation and education. Join us and contribute to the success of Fresno’s Chaffee Zoo’s many vibrant and impactful events.
