Job Description
The Tulsa City-County Library is a valued public institution dedicated to serving the diverse and dynamic community of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Known for its commitment to providing extensive resources, educational opportunities, and outstanding service, the Tulsa City-County Library offers multiple locations that cater to residents and visitors alike. Among its facilities are the Central Library and the recently established Rudisill Regional Library event space, which boasts scenic views of downtown Tulsa. These venues are integral parts of the community, hosting a broad variety of events from intimate private gatherings to large-scale award programs. The library's mission goes beyond book lending, emphasizing community engagement, accessibility, and fostering a welcoming environment where all individuals feel respected and supported.
The role of the Events Assistant at Tulsa City-County Library is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, creative, and highly organized professional to contribute to the planning and execution of a diverse range of events. This part-time position offers 20 hours per week with a competitive hourly wage of $16.25. The Events Assistant provides essential support to the Event Coordinators by managing daily logistics, coordinating with vendors, and delivering exceptional service to customers who utilize the library’s event spaces. Whether it’s providing tours for prospective customers or overseeing on-site operations during events, the Events Assistant ensures seamless and memorable experiences for all attendees.
This role requires adaptability and strong organizational skills to juggle multiple projects and deadlines efficiently. Evening and weekend availability is essential, reflecting the library’s commitment to accommodating community activities that take place outside typical business hours. The incumbent acts as the on-site Person-in-Charge during after-hours events, requiring leadership, diplomatic communication, and independent decision-making. Beyond routine event support, the assistant collaborates closely with library personnel and external vendors, contributing to program success while advancing the Tulsa City-County Library’s values of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Typical responsibilities include reviewing venue rental requests, organizing support service needs such as security and audiovisual assistance, and participating in event preparation tasks like report generation and presentation support. Opportunities also arise to engage in special programs, system-wide events such as the Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award, and other community-focused initiatives that are central to the Tulsa library experience. The role is designed for professionals who thrive in a service-oriented atmosphere, enjoy problem-solving on the fly, and are comfortable interacting with a broad spectrum of stakeholders and customers. This position offers a rewarding blend of customer interaction, event coordination, and behind-the-scenes logistics—making it ideal for those interested in event planning, hospitality, or community engagement within a respected public institution.
