Job Description

Friends of Global Market (FOGM) is a vibrant community organization dedicated to supporting the Midtown Global Market, a diverse and bustling marketplace that embodies cultural richness and economic opportunity in Minneapolis. FOGM helps foster a welcoming and inclusive environment through its initiatives aimed at promoting vendors, engaging the community, and celebrating cultural diversity. By supporting small business development and cultural programming, FOGM plays a pivotal role in enhancing the community's economic and social fabric. The organization is committed to creating meaningful experiences for visitors and elevating the profile of market vendors while strengthening community ties through purposeful events and outreach.

The Events & Social Media Specialist plays an essential role within FOGM by driving the organization's mission forward through dynamic event planning and robust digital engagement. This full-time position focuses on planning, coordinating, and executing a variety of weekly, monthly, and seasonal events that not only increase foot traffic to Midtown Global Market but also boost vendor sales and community participation. Serving as a visible and approachable presence, the Specialist also manages the market's social media channels, crafting compelling stories that highlight vendor products, cultural heritage, and community events. This role merges event production expertise, volunteer coordination, community engagement, and digital storytelling into a cohesive strategy that enriches the market's culture and visitor experience.

The Specialist’s responsibilities span a broad spectrum from managing logistics, coordinating performers and community partners, to utilizing sound systems during events and festivals. They recruit and train volunteers, ensuring smooth event operations and creating positive volunteer experiences that promote long-term engagement. On the digital front, the Specialist curates a weekly content calendar and produces engaging multimedia content including photos, videos, reels, and stories across platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. They actively engage with the online community by responding to comments and messages, tracking engagement metrics, and refining digital strategies to achieve maximum impact.

Beyond events and social media, the Specialist provides frontline customer service at The Friends Zone kiosk, welcoming visitors, offering information about the market, its vendors, and programming, and fostering community connections. This role also involves collaboration with the Executive Director to support broader marketing initiatives aimed at amplifying market visibility and outreach. An ideal candidate is organized, communicative, and comfortable working in a public-facing environment including evenings and weekends during events. Passion for cultural diversity, community empowerment, and small business support is key to successfully contributing to FOGM's mission.

FOGM offers comprehensive benefits to full-time employees including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, health savings account options, virtual healthcare access with Teladoc services, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, earned sick and safe time, and paid family medical leave. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful, lasting impact by supporting a thriving community marketplace that celebrates diversity and economic opportunity.
