Events and Ministry Coordinator (Onsite, Volunteer)

The position available is the Events and Ministry Coordinator, alternatively referred to internally as the Coordinator of Resident Services, responsible for executing the service plan of Apartment Life within a specific apartment community located in Gulfport, Mississippi. This unique role offers an opportunity to be immersed directly within the community, as the coordinators live onsite and are compensated via discounted rent rather than traditional salary. This role is part-time, requiring around 12 hours per week of committed service, typically spread across business hours, evenings, and weekends to ensure alignment with residents' availability and needs.

The coordinator role is designed to be filled by a team of two people, such as a married couple, adult family members, or two roommates of the same gender who can commit to serving together for a period of two years. This team dynamic is critical to effectively meet the diverse and ongoing needs of the community and to provide continuous engagement and support.

In this role, coordinators develop and lead a monthly schedule filled with community events and workshops aimed at fostering social engagement, wellness, health, enrichment, and tenant stability. These events can range from educational workshops for adults and youth to welcoming new residents and helping connect people with critical community resources, including rental assistance programs, food support, and other necessary aid. Coordinators also act as vital connectors, meeting regularly with residents to provide individualized support and to build trusting relationships within the community.

The role includes ongoing collaboration with onsite staff and regular communication with the Apartment Life supervisor, including weekly meetings to review programming goals and strategies. Coordinators are also responsible for submitting monthly impact reports detailing activities, attendance, and outcomes, enabling continuous program improvement and transparency.

This position is not compensated with a traditional salary but instead offers discounted housing onsite, making it well-suited for individuals or pairs committed to community service and engagement rather than monetary compensation. Due to the nature of the job requiring physical activity, coordinators should be able to perform tasks such as standing, sitting, bending, using stairs, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
