Job Description

Apartment Life is a community-focused organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents living in apartment communities. Operating within a supportive framework, Apartment Life focuses on fostering social engagement, promoting wellness, and providing enrichment opportunities for adults and families alike. The organization collaborates with corporate, government, and nonprofit partners to tailor programs that meet the unique needs of each apartment community they serve. Their approach is holistic, aiming to boost not only the social and recreational aspects of community living but also to connect residents with essential resources related to housing, food, and other assistance programs. They currently have a part-time opportunity based in Jackson, MS, for an Events and Ministry Coordinator, also internally known as Coordinator of Resident Services.

This role is a part-time position requiring around 12 hours per week. Unlike traditional paid roles, compensation is provided through discounted rent for living onsite within the community where the coordinator will serve. This living arrangement fosters deeper community involvement and allows the coordinator to be an integral part of the social fabric of the apartment complex. The position is ideally suited for a team of two people, which might be a married couple, family members, or two roommates of the same gender, who commit to serving together for a minimum of two years. The coordinator role includes responsibilities during business hours, evenings, and weekends to meet the dynamic scheduling needs of community programs.

The main responsibility of the Events and Ministry Coordinator is to execute the service plan of Apartment Life effectively. This involves working closely with supervisors to prepare monthly schedules that encompass resident events, workshops, educational classes for both adults and youth, resource facilitation, and welcoming activities for new residents. As a community liaison, the coordinator is entrusted with planning and hosting events that promote social engagement, health, wellness, and personal enrichment. These events are designed to enhance community stability and foster a supportive environment where residents feel connected and supported.

To ensure smooth operation, the coordinator will collaborate with partners and onsite staff, manage overall activities, and maintain regular communication with their supervisor. Weekly meetings are scheduled to review ongoing programs and assess the impact of the events organized. The coordinator is also responsible for submitting monthly reports detailing the activities conducted and their outcomes. This feedback loop is critical for continuous improvement of resident services and effective program delivery.

Candidates looking to fill this role should possess excellent communication skills since they will be interacting regularly with residents and partners, providing information, sharing assistance programs, and offering emotional support when necessary. Basic computer skills are required for composing marketing materials and preparing reports. Additionally, candidates must be physically capable of performing the role's demands, which include occasional lifting, bending, and standing. Access to reliable transportation is necessary for tasks such as purchasing supplies and coordinating with vendors.

Living onsite and working closely with residents, the Events and Ministry Coordinator plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, healthy, and vibrant apartment community. This unique opportunity is ideal for individuals or teams passionate about community service, event planning, and social impact, who are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of apartment residents through meaningful engagement and support.
