The position of Events & External Operations Manager within the Athletic Director's department at Tyler Junior College plays a critical role in advancing the visibility, engagement, and financial sustainability of the college's athletic programs. The role centers on increasing attendance at athletic events and securing external support through innovative marketing, engaging promotions, merchandise sales, and strategic partnerships.

The Events & External Operations Manager is responsible for developing and implementing a holistic marketing plan that elevates the TJC athletic brand both on-campus and within the regional community. This includes creating captivating game-day events and promotions that boost fan engagement and enhance the atmosphere during competitions. By overseeing ticket sales management and pursuing new revenue-generating opportunities, the incumbent contributes significantly to the department's financial health and growth.

Additionally, this leadership role requires fostering strong connections with alumni, local businesses, sponsors, and community organizations to expand TJC’s footprint and create lasting partnerships. The manager collaborates closely with coaches, student workers, and event staff to ensure smooth and energetic execution of all athletic events. The position also involves administrative duties such as strategic planning support for the Athletic Director and supervising personnel, ensuring organizational goals align with departmental objectives.

The role is ideal for a candidate with a background in sport management or related fields and experience in intercollegiate athletics. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in sport management, education administration, organizational leadership, or related field
  • One year of experience in intercollegiate athletics or related experience
  • Skills in employing and supervising a diverse staff
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience

  • Ability to work regular hours outside normal business hours
  • Must have current valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record

Job Duties

  • Develop and execute athletics marketing strategy to increase attendance and visibility
  • Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all athletic programs and communications
  • Design creative promotions to engage students, campus, and community
  • Plan and execute game-day promotions, halftime features, contests, giveaways, and theme nights
  • Coordinate all in-game entertainment elements including music, PA announcements, sponsor activations, and crowd engagement
  • Supervise event staff, student workers, and volunteers
  • Collaborate with coaches and operations staff for smooth event execution
  • Oversee ticket sales strategies including season tickets, single-game, premium seating, and group packages
  • Implement initiatives to maximize ticket revenue and attendance
  • Track sales performance, attendance trends, and revenue metrics
  • Identify new revenue sources like special events, camps, hospitality, and premium experiences
  • Build fan engagement strategies year-round to enhance support from students, alumni, families, and residents
  • Develop community outreach programs connecting athletic teams with local schools and businesses
  • Manage merchandise strategy including apparel, online and game-day sales
  • Collaborate with vendors to expand product offerings
  • Ensure merchandise reflects institutional branding standards
  • Manage corporate sponsorship programs in partnership with institutional advancement
  • Build and maintain relationships with local and regional businesses for sponsorship
  • Fulfill sponsor agreements ensuring strong ROI
  • Create alumni engagement strategies including events, reunions, recognition, and fundraising
  • Develop alumni communication plans
  • Serve as home game administrator for select events
  • Assist Athletic Director with strategic planning and growth initiatives
  • Supervise assigned personnel, interns, and student employees
  • Represent the athletic program to internal and external constituencies
