Job Description

Friends of Switchpoint is a dedicated non-profit organization that has been serving individuals, families, and veterans experiencing poverty and homelessness since its establishment in 2014. The organization is deeply committed to its mission of empowering people in need by addressing the root causes of poverty and creating personalized, comprehensive plans to support each client on their journey to self-sufficiency. Friends of Switchpoint operates with a vision that recognizes the intrinsic worth and value of every individual. Their belief in fostering positive change through respect, dignity, and empowerment forms the core of their approach.

The culture at Friends of Switchpoint is built on foundational values such as kindness, connection, kinship, self-worth, and self-reliance. These values are not just guiding principles but are actively practiced to create an environment where both staff and clients feel valued and supported. The organization emphasizes kindness as contagious, connection as life’s purpose, and kinship as a sense of belonging. They promote treating people with true value and encourage everyone to learn their roles and take initiative, nurturing a community spirit among all involved.

The guiding principles of Friends of Switchpoint include kindness, leadership, transparency, authenticity, positive influence, and adherence to the Golden Rule — treating others as they themselves wish to be treated. These principles ensure that every action and interaction aligns with their mission and vision, aiming to create meaningful, positive impacts on those they serve. Their motto, "It Takes All of Us to End Homelessness," reflects their inclusive, community-driven approach to tackling complex social challenges.

The organization is currently seeking a full-time Events and Community Coordinator to join their team at The Point - Fairpark and Airport by Switchpoint, a permanent supportive housing community focused on providing stable, reliable housing to low-income and unsheltered individuals. This housing community offers wrap-around concierge services tailored to meet the unique needs of each resident.

The Events and Community Coordinator role is vital to fostering a strong sense of community and engagement within the facilities. This position involves organizing and coordinating events, activities, and classes that enrich the lives of residents and create opportunities for connection and personal growth. The Coordinator will work closely with facility managers, case management teams, and residents to identify and plan events that resonate with the community’s interests and needs.

In addition to event planning, the Coordinator will build rapport and professional relationships with residents to encourage active participation. Effective communication and calendar management ensure that both staff and residents are well-informed about upcoming events. The role also involves community outreach efforts, collaborating with the Switchpoint marketing team to develop partnerships and secure resources such as donations and sponsorships that benefit the residents.

Budget management, reporting, and attendance tracking are key responsibilities, requiring the Coordinator to maintain organized documentation and deliver timely reports to facility leadership. By attending coordination meetings and maintaining professional boundaries, the Coordinator supports a safe and welcoming environment conducive to community building.

This role demands a motivated and self-starting individual with strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience in budget management, and a compassionate attitude toward a diverse population are essential. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in activities or events coordination, networking, or community engagement.

Friends of Switchpoint offers competitive compensation within the range of $18 to $23 hourly for this full-time position. Employees become eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401k, and an Employee Assistance Program starting the first of the month after 60 days of employment. The organization is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, welcoming applicants from diverse backgrounds and committed to inclusivity in their workforce.
