Job Description
Coppin State University is a well-established higher education institution located in Maryland, dedicated to fostering student success through comprehensive academic and auxiliary services. Known for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and innovation, Coppin State University serves a diverse student body and offers a wide range of academic programs and student support services. As part of its commitment to operational excellence and community engagement, the university continually invests in enhancing its campus facilities and services to support academic, athletic, and institutional events.
The position of Events and AV Services Manager at Coppin State University offers a unique opportunity to lead and oversee the university's event management and audiovisual services. This role reports directly to the Director of Business and Auxiliary Services and carries a regular employment status with an annual salary of $72,000. The Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure that various types of events—including student, academic, athletic, institutional, and external events—are executed flawlessly. This role involves leading a team consisting of professional staff, technical personnel, and student employees, and requires a hands-on approach to managing event logistics, technical AV operations, and compliance with university policies.
In this leadership role, the Manager maximizes facility utilization and auxiliary revenue while enhancing overall customer satisfaction. Responsibilities include developing departmental goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and service standards to ensure consistent high-quality service delivery. The Manager also oversees campus event scheduling through platforms such as Ad Astra and Event Guru, manages vendor relationships, and maintains equipment inventory for audiovisual services. This role demands strong financial acumen to partner with leadership in monitoring budgets, contracts, and revenue sources to optimize operational efficiency.
Furthermore, the Manager is entrusted with personnel supervision duties, including recruiting, training, evaluating, and developing both full-time staff and student employees. Collaboration with various campus departments—such as Facilities, Public Safety, Athletics, Dining, and Procurement—is key to successfully delivering seamless events and meeting the diverse needs of the campus community. Additionally, the Manager acts as the senior event manager for major institutional events and plays a critical role in continuous process improvement to streamline operations.
Candidates for this position should bring at least five years of progressively responsible experience in event management, conference services, audiovisual operations, or related areas, with demonstrated supervisory experience. The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Event Management, or a related field, with a preference for advanced degrees and professional certifications such as CMP, CTS, or CASP. Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills are essential, along with knowledge of AV technologies, livestreaming, and hybrid event production.
Coppin State University is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, providing a supportive work environment and a competitive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability coverage, retirement contributions, paid leave, and federal holidays. This role offers a challenging and rewarding career path for professionals seeking to make a meaningful impact in a vibrant academic community through effective event and audiovisual service management.
