Job Description
The National Landing Business Improvement District (BID) is a dynamic public-private partnership dedicated to revitalizing and enhancing one of the most exciting urban transformations in the Washington, D.C. region. National Landing encompasses the vibrant neighborhoods of Crystal City, Pentagon City, and Potomac Yard. As Virginia's largest walkable downtown area, the BID spearheads initiatives that foster economic competitiveness, community building, and cultural vibrancy through its comprehensive portfolio of placemaking, public art, marketing, promotion, and event programming. By collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders — including local businesses, property owners, government entities, and community organizations — the National Landing BID shapes the district into a dynamic, mixed-use urban center that celebrates sustainability, innovation, inclusivity, and design-forward thinking.
Within this fast-paced and innovative environment, the National Landing BID is seeking an energetic and creative Events & Activations Manager to join their dedicated events team. This is a full-time, in-person position, with the flexibility to work varied hours including early mornings, evenings, and weekends based on event schedules. The role is central to evolving the BID's extensive events and activations calendar, which includes about 100 programs annually aimed at activating public spaces, strengthening the district's brand, building community engagement, and celebrating stakeholder contributions.
The Events & Activations Manager will directly support the development, management, and execution of large-scale outdoor community programs, festivals, placemaking initiatives, sponsor activations, stakeholder receptions, and business gatherings. Reporting to the Director of Events & Activations, this role demands an individual with exceptional project management skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a strategic, collaborative, and fast-moving environment. Candidates will bring proven experience managing diverse event types from concept through completion, including extensive knowledge in permitting, vendor management, staffing logistics, public safety coordination, and weather contingency planning.
Success in this position requires a self-motivated and innovative thinker who is not only passionate about hosting memorable events but also proactive in researching emerging event trends, audience engagement strategies, and placemaking best practices. The Events & Activations Manager will be instrumental in defining event goals, establishing success metrics, and conducting rigorous post-event evaluations to measure impact and operational efficiency. Additionally, the role involves building strong relationships with sponsors, partners, vendors, and community members, contributing to sponsorship development and ensuring seamless delivery of sponsor benefits.
Collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team is key to ensuring effective event promotion through registration management, creative asset development, and post-event reporting. This position also demands physical endurance, as duties may include standing for long durations and managing event equipment. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will demonstrate an enthusiastic and solutions-oriented attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, and the flexibility required to rapidly adapt to evolving event needs.
Working at the National Landing BID means being part of a team that values diversity, creativity, and a work-life balance. The BID offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a convenient location accessible by Metro. Employees are encouraged to bring entrepreneurial spirit and contribute to a collaborative and fun work environment where innovation and community impact are at the forefront of every project.
