Job Description
Liberty University is a prominent private Christian university known for its commitment to providing high-quality education and fostering a mission-driven community. As one of the largest Christian universities in the world, Liberty University combines rigorous academic programs with a vibrant campus life and diverse events that serve both internal university groups and the wider community. The University Events Office plays a crucial role in coordinating and managing a variety of events, ranging from summer camps and conferences to weddings and graduations, ensuring these events reflect the institution's standards of excellence and customer service as outlined in the Liberty Way.
The Summer Temp position at Liberty University is an integral support role that assists the University Events Office with coordinating and facilitating both internal and external events, as well as summer camp programs. This part-time, onsite role involves a combination of fieldwork and office work. Individuals in this position will actively participate in event setup and oversight by providing logistical support and ensuring smooth execution of various events around campus. This includes working closely with event coordinators and university service personnel to maintain high standards and enforce university policies. The role requires a hands-on approach to event management, including overseeing event policies in venues and assisting the camp directors and campers with common issues that may arise.
In addition to event coordination, the Summer Temp is responsible for crucial office duties such as scheduling events using the 25Live system, communicating with resource teams through emails, and assisting with logistical planning. Administrative tasks also include phone communication, email correspondence, data entry, creating spreadsheets, and updating online software. As the position demands attention to detail and multitasking skills, the candidate should be able to manage competing priorities while maintaining professionalism and outstanding customer service.
This role also requires physical activity such as lifting and moving materials pertinent to event logistics. The successful candidate will be flexible with their schedule, potentially working nights and weekends to align with event timings. The Summer Temp should possess an ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally while demonstrating strong problem-solving capabilities. This includes working effectively as part of a team and supporting the mission of Liberty University.
Candidates for this position are typically students working toward a degree in business, marketing, sports management, or event management, or individuals with relevant professional experience. The ideal candidate will have experience with Microsoft Office, strong verbal and written communication skills, prior customer service experiences, and ability to engage effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders. Physical stamina, a strong work ethic, and commitment to the university's values are essential for thriving in this role.
The Summer Temp position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event coordination and management within a faith-based educational environment. It fosters individual growth, leadership skills, organizational abilities, and exposes candidates to a variety of event types and operational logistics. This part-time role is well-suited to proactive individuals passionate about event planning and interested in contributing to a dynamic university community during the summer season.
