Job Description

As the largest museum in the state, it offers visitors a unique opportunity to engage with the state's past and present through permanent collections, impactful exhibitions, immersive educational programs, and various digital resources. The museum operates not only as a place of learning but also as a vibrant community hub, hosting numerous events throughout the year that range from weddings and corporate gatherings to public programs and special celebrations. Being an equal opportunity employer, the South Carolina State Museum fosters an inclusive work environment that values dedication, teamwork, and a passion for cultural storytelling.

The Event Support Associate is a temporary, part-time role designed for dynamic individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments and are eager to contribute to the success of museum event operations. This position offers hourly compensation of $14.00 and demands a flexible schedule, including availability on weekdays, nights, weekends, holidays, and special events. This role is critical in ensuring that all Museum event spaces are flawlessly prepared, maintained during use, and returned to pristine condition afterward. Responsibilities encompass setting up tables, chairs, linens, staging, and equipment in compliance with event-specific layouts, managing cleanliness and waste disposal, organizing storage and preparation areas, and occasionally supporting gallery monitoring activities. Candidates in this role must demonstrate physical endurance and the ability to perform tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds and prolonged standing or bending. They will work collaboratively with event coordinators, museum staff, and external vendors to deliver seamless event experiences while safeguarding the Museum’s property and valuable exhibits.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience or interest in event coordination, hospitality, custodial services, or facility support. It is an event-driven role requiring strong reliability, punctuality, and the ability to follow detailed directions. Employees will enjoy being part of a team that values professionalism and creativity while contributing to meaningful storytelling that honors South Carolina's heritage. The work environment is lively and occasionally outdoors, offering hands-on experience in managing dynamic event settings. Ideal candidates will be adaptable, proactive, and eager to uphold the museum’s high standards of service and care for cultural assets. Through this role, associates can develop valuable skills in event management and guest services within a respected state institution that deeply values its veterans and diverse workforce.
