Job Description
The South Carolina State Museum (SCSM) is a premier cultural institution dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history, diverse cultural heritage, and vibrant artistic achievements of South Carolina. Established as one of the largest museums in the state, SCSM serves as a hub for education, innovation, and community engagement through its permanent collections, educational programs, exhibitions, and digital resources. The museum plays a critical role in telling South Carolina's diverse stories, highlighting the state’s natural history, cultural diversity, and innovative spirit, making it a cherished destination for locals and visitors alike. The museum's commitment to education and outreach fosters a deeper understanding of the state's past and present, while inspiring future generations through interactive exhibits and programs.
The Event Support Associate at the South Carolina State Museum is an integral member of the team responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of events hosted within its spaces. This role supports event operations by preparing event venues, maintaining cleanliness, assisting during events, and restoring facilities to their original condition after use. Working in this capacity means you will be actively involved in setting up event spaces according to precise diagrams and specifications, which may include arranging tables, chairs, linens, staging, and equipment for a variety of functions such as weddings, corporate events, and public programs.
In addition to logistical setup, the Event Support Associate plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of event sites before, during, and after activities. This involves collecting and disposing of trash, recycling, and event-related waste, as well as sanitizing areas to prepare them for future use. The position requires physical endurance and the ability to safely handle furniture, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they are stored properly and securely.
Moreover, this role occasionally involves gallery monitoring to help protect museum exhibits and enhance guest safety by adhering strictly to museum protocols and policies. The Event Support Associate collaborates closely with museum staff, event coordinators, and external vendors to deliver successful events and uphold the museum’s standards. The role requires flexibility, reliability, and availability during evenings, weekends, and holidays since most events occur outside regular business hours.
This opportunity is well-suited for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, event-driven environment and who have a passion for serving the community while contributing to a respected cultural institution. The South Carolina State Museum offers a unique work environment where professionalism, teamwork, and dedication are valued, and where you can be part of a mission to educate and inspire through meaningful experiences. Joining this team means becoming part of a dynamic setting, engaging with diverse audiences, and supporting memorable events that celebrate South Carolina’s history and culture.
