The Event Staff I - Crowd Manager position at UVU represents a vital role within the University’s event operations team. This role involves providing exceptional customer service and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere at all events hosted on campus, including concerts, sports events, performances, and university ceremonies. Crowd Managers directly engage with guests, assisting with seating, accessibility accommodations, ticket validation, and venue navigation to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all attendees. They are integral to event safety, monitoring crowd movement and behavior, reporting safety concerns, and supporting security protocols. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other hours based on event schedules
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Effective verbal communication skills
- Strong observation skills, situational awareness, and attention to detail
- Conflict de-escalation and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with supervisors, event staff, security personnel, and other campus or event partners
- Organizational skills sufficient to maintain assigned posts and support event operations
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and focused during high-pressure situations, emergencies, or unexpected event challenges
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Six months of experience in customer service, guest services, event staffing, ushering, or a similar public-facing role
- Experience working in sports, entertainment, performing arts, or university event venues
- Experience with ticket scanning, guest screening, ADA accommodations, seating assistance, and front-of-house event operations
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification
Job Duties
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting patrons, scanning or validating tickets, answering questions, and assisting guests with seating, ADA accommodations, venue amenities, and event information
- Help create a welcoming, professional, and service-oriented environment for all guests, donors, visiting artists, artist management, university personnel, and members of the public
- Monitor guest activity and assigned public areas to support a safe, orderly, and secure event environment
- Assist with crowd movement, ingress and egress, and security screenings as assigned
- Identify and report safety concerns, suspicious activity, prohibited items, congestion, or behavioral issues to supervisors in accordance with venue procedures
- Support event operations before, during, and after events by maintaining assigned posts, preparing public areas for guest use, keeping lobbies and seating areas neat and organized, and assisting with opening, event, and closing responsibilities as assigned
- Assist with communicating and reinforcing venue policies, event rules, and guest expectations professionally
- Observe and report guest concerns, policy violations, and routine incidents to supervisors, event security, or other appropriate personnel in accordance with venue procedures
- Assist with emergency response actions by remaining alert, following staff direction, helping communicate instructions to guests, and supporting orderly movement during alarms, evacuations, shelter-in-place situations, or other emergency conditions
