Job Description
Work for Indiana offers rewarding career opportunities within one of the largest employers in the state, spanning over 60 agencies. Employees benefit from competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits packages, and a strong emphasis on work-life balance. Joining the State of Indiana workforce means playing a vital role in impacting the lives of Hoosiers, fostering a community-focused environment, and contributing to the betterment of local areas through meaningful public service roles.
White River State Park is a premier destination located in downtown Indianapolis, encompassing 250 scenic acres filled with greenspaces, trails, waterways, and an array of cultural, educational, and recreational attractions. This park serves as a significant urban green oasis hosting world-class experiences for visitors and residents alike, including various events and community activities that showcase the vibrancy of Indianapolis. Its mission revolves around providing an engaging, welcoming environment that highlights the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region.
As an Event Staff member at White River State Park, you will form an essential part of the events team, supporting the planning, execution, and overall management of a diverse calendar of events. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy interacting with the public, are passionate about promoting community engagement, and are eager to build a career in tourism, event management, or community outreach sectors. The position requires flexibility, as events take place at varying times, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
The primary responsibilities include acting as a knowledgeable and enthusiastic ambassador for the park, assisting with the load-in and load-out logistics of events, collaborating with vendors and event planners, and serving as the onsite liaison for third-party rentals. Participation in planning meetings and coordination with Live Nation Sales Managers and other stakeholders ensures the successful hosting of rental events. Additionally, this role supports in-house park events such as movie nights and craft activities, enhancing community involvement and visitor experiences.
This seasonal position, typically starting at $18.00 per hour, offers a unique chance to develop key skills in event coordination, operational support, and customer service within a dynamic outdoor environment. While it does not provide benefits due to its seasonal nature and limited 180-day work period, it presents invaluable hands-on experience within a reputable state park system. Candidates with a high school diploma, a passion for the outdoors, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to integrity are highly desirable.
Working as part of the White River State Park events team enables individuals to gain insight into municipal event operations, foster networks within the Indiana tourism and recreation community, and contribute to the positive experiences of thousands of visitors annually. This role encourages personal and professional growth and offers the opportunity to be involved in a variety of event types in a culturally rich and environmentally beautiful setting.
