The role is for Event Staff at UT Austin’s graduation ceremony, an iconic and highly anticipated event on the university calendar. As Event Staff, you will play a critical role in creating a welcoming and efficient environment for graduates and guests, ensuring that the event runs smoothly and safely. This is an outdoor, team-based position with a focus on customer service, crowd management, and logistical coordination.

The work will include greeting graduates and their families, informing them about the university's clear bag policy, distributing approved clear bags to guests, and managing parking logistics across campus. Your role will be pivotal in maintaining the flow of traffic in parking lots and garages and assisting with pedestrian and vehicle movement between ceremonies. You will work closely with supervisors and fellow team members to uphold event policies and ensure a positive experience for attendees.

The position pays $18 per hour, and shifts are typically scheduled for the day of the graduation event, with the possibility of ending earlier depending on the demand. This role requires standing and working outdoors for extended periods, making physical stamina and a proactive attitude essential. Strict punctuality is mandatory, as late arrivals are not permitted to work. Additionally, adherence to the uniform policy is compulsory; the outfit includes a white polo or t-shirt with sleeves, black or khaki shorts or pants, and comfortable closed-toed tennis shoes.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Welcome graduates and their families and inform them of complimentary parking and the Universitys clear bag policy
  • Distribute clear bags to guests who need them to comply with venue requirements
  • Keep traffic moving by directing guests to available parking lots and garages
  • Assist with traffic and pedestrian flow between ceremonies inside garages surface lots and at other posts assigned by supervisors
  • Follow supervisor instructions and work as part of a team
  • Uphold on-site policies including the tobacco-free campus and cell phone restrictions
  • Ensure full uniform compliance at the start of shift
