Job Description
Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) is a prominent organization dedicated to providing premier recreational opportunities and maintaining the beauty of county parks. CCPRC manages a wide array of parks, beaches, waterparks, and community recreation sites, striving to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. The agency is committed to offering engaging programs, special events, and recreational activities that foster community involvement, celebrate local culture, and promote health and wellness. With a reputation for excellent public service and a vast network of recreational facilities, CCPRC has become a central figure in the region's leisure and outdoor scene.
The Recreation Festival and Event Lead Aide plays a critical role within CCPRC by assisting in the execution of diverse festival and special event programs aimed at maximizing public attendance, raising community awareness, and generating programming revenue. This role requires a highly dedicated individual who is comfortable working year-round, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The position involves hands-on participation in a variety of events running the gamut from small community celebrations to large-scale public festivals held in parks and community recreation venues. The incumbent will also support rural recreation efforts, inclusion-focused programming, holiday-themed events, children's activities, and both internal and external events as assigned.
Beyond event support, the Lead Aide is responsible for managing the setup, maintenance, and organization of essential festival and event equipment such as tents, tables, trailers, sound systems, and other materials. This ensures that all events operate smoothly and safely. The position demands strong interpersonal skills, as communicating courteously and informatively with park patrons is a core responsibility. Additionally, the role occasionally involves serving alcohol consistent with regulatory requirements and managing onsite alcohol and beverage sales.
A key function of the role includes helping coordinate and supervise part-time programming staff, volunteers, vendors, and contractors to ensure seamless event operations. The Lead Aide must apply sound judgment, professionalism, and maturity while working with minimal direction under broad guidelines. Other duties involve producing vinyl sign requests, supporting marketing efforts through poster distribution, and adhering to strict cash control and financial reporting processes before, during, and after events.
The ideal candidate must be able to physically manage heavy equipment — often lifting up to 50 pounds alone and more collaboratively — and possess the ability to drive, tow, and back trailers and oversized vehicles. The role requires individuals who can effectively manage their time, follow detailed instructions, handle multiple responsibilities, and present themselves professionally in a dynamic work environment. With exposure to various weather conditions and outdoor hazards typical of park settings, the Lead Aide should also be prepared to maintain performance and safety at all times.
Overall, this position offers an excellent opportunity to join a respected public organization and contribute to meaningful community-focused events that bring people together and enhance the region's recreational landscape. CCPRC offers a competitive hourly wage of $19.25 along with extensive benefits and professional growth opportunities, making this a rewarding career path for motivated individuals passionate about event planning and recreation programming.
