Job Description

The Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton is a renowned institution dedicated to supporting the academic mission of California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). This role is essential in coordinating all logistical activities related to events such as weddings, receptions, and other rental functions hosted on the grounds. The event staff are responsible for ensuring smooth execution by managing vendor coordination, guest arrangement, equipment setup and teardown, and overseeing the overall guest experience during events. The position demands excellent communication skills, organizational ability, and a strong sense of responsibility to maintain security and venue integrity before, during, and after events. The Event Staff also support the opening and closing of Heritage House for brides and manage vendor supervision alongside assisting the event coordinator as needed.

This role involves a variety of duties that include managing access to the grounds, assuring that restrooms are adequately stocked and maintained, positioning event signage, securing power cords to prevent hazards, and maintaining ongoing communication between the event coordinator and guests. Staff are expected to confirm clearance of event sites and ensure trash removal after events conclude. A crucial part of the role also involves conducting post-event security checks, which include locking buildings and gates to ensure the safety of the premises. The ability to handle communication tools such as cell phones and walkie-talkies efficiently is vital to supporting different event functions smoothly. Additionally, the Event Staff are required to fill out necessary forms and evaluations for the Facility Rental Manager and adhere to any special instructions provided by the Facility Rental Manager or the event coordinator.

Physically, this role requires prolonged standing and walking, as well as the ability to talk, hear, pull, bend and possibly lift objects or materials weighing up to 40 pounds. The work environment may sometimes expose staff to high noise levels and involves reaching with hands or arms, stooping, kneeling, and occasionally smelling or tasting. This comprehensive physical and logistical involvement ensures that events are carried out successfully, making it an ideal position for individuals who enjoy dynamic, hands-on work in an outdoor garden setting with a focus on community engagement and event coordination.

Job Duties
