Job Description
The City of West Palm Beach is a vibrant and dynamic municipality dedicated to enriching the lives of its residents and visitors through exceptional community events and cultural experiences. Located in Florida, West Palm Beach is known for its picturesque waterfront, historic neighborhoods, and thriving arts scene. The city government is committed to promoting a high quality of life by organizing and facilitating various public events that foster community engagement, social interaction, and cultural enrichment. One of the notable departments within the city administration is responsible for managing and coordinating city events that cater to diverse audiences throughout the year.
This special events logistics position is pivotal in ensuring the successful execution of key city-sponsored events including the West Palm Beach GreenMarket, Clematis by Night, Screen on the Green, Sunday on the Waterfront, 4th on Flagler, and the Holiday in Paradise celebration. The role requires an individual who can work under general supervision but display initiative and strong organizational skills when planning and implementing logistics for these sizable community gatherings. This position demands flexibility as the work schedule includes nights, weekends, and holidays, specifically targeting Friday, Saturday, and Sunday events along with other large-scale productions by the city.
The successful candidate will serve as a logistical coordinator who oversees multiple facets of event planning such as vendor coordination, site preparation, equipment rentals, crowd management protocols, and safety compliance. Working as part of the city’s special events team, this role plays a significant part in creating memorable experiences for thousands of attendees by ensuring all logistical aspects meet operational standards and local regulations. Although the position is on-call with no associated benefits, it offers a competitive hourly wage of $22.06 aligned with Pay Grade 47. This job presents a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the cultural fabric of West Palm Beach by supporting events that enhance community spirit and economic vitality.
Candidates for this role should possess a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Leisure Management, or a related field, or demonstrate an equivalent combination of education and relevant training. Those with an associate degree plus event management experience or a high school diploma combined with substantial practical experience in event management will also be considered. Valid Florida driver’s license eligibility is mandatory and candidates must meet specific driving requirements outlined by the city. The position is critical to the city’s public engagement efforts and requires dedication to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to adapt to the dynamic needs of event logistics. This role also includes responsibilities during declared states of emergency, highlighting its essential service nature within the city administration. Overall, this is an excellent role for individuals passionate about event management and urban community involvement within a stimulating and supportive municipal environment.
