Job Description
The City of West Hollywood is a unique and vibrant municipality located in the heart of metropolitan Los Angeles. Incorporated in 1984, West Hollywood was founded by a diverse coalition that included LGBTQ activists, older adults, and affordable housing advocates. Covering only 1.9 square miles, this dynamic city is globally recognized as a premier destination known for its cultural richness, economic vitality, and creative spirit. With a population of approximately 36,500 residents, the city combines robust economic development, a thriving arts scene, and a deep-rooted sense of community activism and civic pride. West Hollywood is known for its iconic neighborhoods such as the Rainbow District, the Sunset Strip, and the Design District. The city embodies a progressive vision, characterized by respect and support for people, responsiveness to the public, innovation, promotion of economic development, public safety, and environmental responsibility. It is a center for entertainment, design, technology, and hospitality, making it a lively place to work and live.
The Event Services Division within the city plays a crucial role in producing and supporting large-scale, world-class events that highlight the city’s cultural and social vibrancy. These signature events include WeHo Pride and Halloween Carnaval, among other major co-sponsored gatherings that draw visitors and community members alike. The division focuses on prioritizing safety during event planning while providing seamless logistical support and a streamlined permitting process to ensure smooth execution with minimal impact on local residents. The division is committed to delivering exceptional customer service to event producers and stakeholders involved in these large-scale community events.
The role of Temporary Event Services Coordinator is designed to support this vision by assisting in the planning and execution of community events that are engaging, safely managed, and flawlessly delivered. This temporary position has a six-month term and offers limited benefits, making it ideal for candidates seeking a defined term opportunity within a progressive municipal team. The coordinator will be responsible for handling a wide variety of tasks related to event management, including coordinating logistics, securing permits, liaising with various city departments for support, managing vendor relationships, tracking sponsorships, overseeing budgeting, and supporting on-site event operations. This position requires the individual to be highly organized, detail-oriented, and people-centered to successfully manage the complexities of large public events that span city parks and streets.
The ideal candidate for this role exhibits strong project management skills, capable of navigating timelines, budgets, contracts, and vendor coordination from event conception through completion. They must be calm under pressure, demonstrating the ability to solve problems efficiently and make sound decisions that keep events running seamlessly. Excellent communication skills are essential, as the role involves extensive collaboration and negotiation with a broad spectrum of stakeholders. Flexibility and reliability are also critical, since the job may require work during evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call hours. The coordinator must embrace a positive attitude and a team-oriented mindset. This position is 100% onsite, based on a Monday through Friday schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with no telework or hybrid options available. Reporting directly to the Event Services Supervisor, the Temporary Event Services Coordinator plays a vital role in advancing West Hollywood’s reputation as a hub for innovative and inclusive community events, contributing to the city’s ongoing commitment to cultural enrichment and civic engagement.
