Job Description

The City of West Hollywood is a unique and vibrant city nestled in the heart of metropolitan Los Angeles, spanning just 1.9 square miles. Incorporated in 1984, West Hollywood was formed by a diverse coalition including LGBTQ activists, older adults, and affordable housing advocates, making it a city rich with history, inclusivity, and progressive values. Known internationally as a prominent tourism destination, West Hollywood boasts a thriving community of approximately 36,500 residents and serves as a hub for entertainment, design, technology, and hospitality industries. Iconic neighborhoods like the Rainbow District, the Sunset Strip, and the Design District underscore West Hollywood's reputation as a cultural, economic, and creative epicenter. The city is committed to upholding its core values such as respect and support for people, responsiveness to the public, innovation, quality of life, economic development, public safety, and environmental responsibility. These principles guide the city’s engagement with a diverse community and its proactive approach to serving its residents and businesses.

The City of West Hollywood is currently seeking a Temporary Event Services Coordinator within the Event Services Division, a dynamic team responsible for the production and support of world-class, large-scale community events. This temporary (six-month term) position offers a full-time work schedule from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with 100% onsite work required and limited benefits. The successful candidate will report directly to the Event Services Supervisor and will play an essential role in the seamless planning and execution of major events such as WeHo Pride, Halloween Carnaval, and other significant co-sponsored events throughout the city.

This position is ideal for an organized, detail-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment that requires juggling multiple projects simultaneously. The Temporary Event Services Coordinator will manage a wide range of responsibilities including coordinating event logistics, securing and managing permits, facilitating interdepartmental support, managing vendor and sponsorship relations, budgeting, and overseeing on-site event operations. The role demands a professional who can effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, negotiate contracts, and maintain a calm and adaptable approach when handling challenges. Candidates should be capable project managers who prioritize safety and community impact while ensuring each event meets the high standards expected in West Hollywood.

This position requires the flexibility to work during evenings, weekends, holidays, and be on-call as necessary to support event needs. It provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in municipal event management within a city known for its cultural vibrancy and community activism. The position includes participation in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and covers full premiums for health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and eligible dependents. This role does not offer telework or hybrid work options and demands full-time onsite presence to support event coordination effectively.
