Job Description

The USS Midway Museum, located in the heart of downtown San Diego, California, is one of the region's most iconic and dynamic event venues. Situated on the historic aircraft carrier USS Midway, this museum offers a unique location with breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of the San Diego skyline, harbor, and Coronado Bay. Its proximity to the convention center and downtown district makes it a highly sought-after space for a wide range of events, including private celebrations, corporate gatherings, military functions, and community events. Hosting more than 700 private and active-duty Navy events annually, the Midway can accommodate groups of varying sizes with a capacity to host events for up to 3,500 guests. This vibrancy ensures a lively and engaging atmosphere for all who visit or work at the museum.

The USS Midway Museum provides employment opportunities in a remarkably collaborative, enjoyable, and customer-centric environment where teamwork, ownership, and a balanced work-life culture are highly valued. The organization, relatively young and intimate in structure, offers staff members a chance to directly influence their work outcomes and witness the immediate positive effects of their contributions. The Museum’s commitment to volunteer service and community engagement further adds to the rewarding nature of the roles offered. Staff members who join the Midway team find themselves involved in a mission that goes beyond everyday work — one that encompasses passion for historical preservation, hospitality, and exemplary service.

The Event Sales and Service Manager position at the USS Midway Museum is a full-time role vital to the continued success and growth of the museum as an event venue. This role focuses on the selling, planning, and managing of all assigned event leads and repeat event functions, specifically targeting groups ranging from 250 to 800 attendees. Serving as the key point of contact, the Event Sales and Service Manager is responsible for converting inquiries into confirmed bookings and maximizing revenue through strategic up-selling to enhance each event’s value. Meticulous attention to detail is necessary, as this manager must oversee event documentation, contracts, service orders, and coordination among multiple departments and stakeholders to ensure events run seamlessly from conception to completion.

The museum offers competitive compensation for this role, with an hourly wage ranging from $28.00 to $32.00, based on the candidate’s knowledge, education, and experience, within an internally equitable pay structure. Beyond remuneration, the USS Midway Museum provides an extensive benefits package designed to support the health, wellbeing, and financial security of its employees. Benefits include employer-paid medical and dental insurance, life and long-term disability insurance coverage with optional vision and legal plans, a 403(b) retirement plan with a generous matching contribution up to 6%, paid time off including vacation, sick days, and holidays, an annual discretionary year-end bonus program, and various employee discounts including free admission to participating San Diego museums.

Ultimately, the Event Sales and Service Manager is a critical team member who thrives in a problem-solving, hands-on, and service-oriented workplace. They value collaboration, take ownership of their projects, and actively contribute toward delivering exceptional client experiences that reinforce the USS Midway Museum’s reputation as a premier event destination in San Diego.
