Job Description
Marriott International, a global leader in the hospitality industry, is renowned for its commitment to exceptional customer service, employee development, and a diverse and inclusive workplace culture. Within Marriott's extensive portfolio is the Westin brand, which has a unique mission to empower guests by enhancing their well-being, ensuring they can perform at their best even while traveling. The Westin brand emphasizes wellness and promotes an active, optimistic, and adventurous lifestyle for both guests and associates. Marriott International prides itself on being an equal opportunity employer, fostering a culture that appreciates differing backgrounds and talents, and supporting a non-discriminatory work environment for all individuals, including those with disabilities and veterans.
The Event Manager role based at 1000 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, 15222 is a full-time management position within Marriott International's Westin brand, offering an annual salary range from $56,000 to $72,000 and eligibility for performance-based bonuses. This role is central to the seamless delivery and operational excellence of events held at the property. The Event Manager is responsible for coordinating all phases of event logistics—from pre-event preparation and collaboration with sales and property departments through the event itself to the post-event phase. This position ensures every event runs smoothly by carefully managing group logistics, billing accuracy, and operational challenges. The role primarily focuses on events of average complexity, providing a well-rounded opportunity for professionals with one to two years of experience in event management or relevant fields.
The Event Manager supports revenue growth by identifying and maximizing up-selling opportunities and event enhancements. By working closely with sales teams, property operations, and customers, the manager plays a critical role in creating outstanding and memorable event experiences that meet client needs and expectations. Additionally, the position involves conducting pre- and post-event meetings, collaborating on sales forecasting, managing group rooms and meeting spaces, and serving as the primary liaison among stakeholders to guarantee a consistent and high standard of service.
Key to success in this role is exceptional customer service, leadership, and a proactive approach to problem solving. The Event Manager empowers team members, ensures clear communication of event details, handles guest challenges tactfully, and uses personal judgment to improve the overall customer experience. Feedback collection and continuous improvement are woven into everyday activities, reinforcing Marriott and Westin's commitment to guest satisfaction and wellness. The role also entails human resource functions such as employee performance feedback, support in corrective actions, and fostering a positive workplace culture.
This position offers a dynamic and rewarding career path for those passionate about hospitality and event management, particularly individuals who resonate with Westin's wellness-driven ethos. Associates in this role are encouraged to embrace their well-being both in and out of the workplace while contributing to a global team focused on diversity, inclusion, and exceptional service. The Event Manager not only supports the operational success of events but also contributes towards Marriott International’s broader goal of delivering unparalleled guest experiences and maintaining industry leadership in wellness hospitality.
