Job Description
Platte River Power Authority is a community-owned, joint action agency that provides reliable, affordable, and sustainable wholesale electric power to its four owner communities. These communities include Fort Collins, Estes Park, Longmont, and Loveland in northern Colorado. Founded with the mission to support its owners and the communities they serve, Platte River focuses strongly on environmental stewardship and economic vitality, making them a well-respected entity in the energy sector. The Authority emphasizes innovation, teamwork, and accountability while delivering power that meets the demands of a rapidly evolving energy landscape. They work diligently to integrate renewable resources, improve operational efficiencies, and maintain infrastructure that supports their ambitious sustainability goals. They have a reputation for fostering an inclusive, supportive workplace that values personal development and professional growth, providing employees with an engaging and meaningful career path.
The Event Planning Intern role at Platte River Power Authority is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate pursuing a degree in hospitality, event management, or a related field to gain hands-on, practical experience in a professional setting. This temporary, part-time internship is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the event planning lifecycle, including logistics, coordination, and execution of various business and community events. The intern will assist in organizing critical year-end business meetings, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the holiday employee appreciation party, and other celebratory functions throughout the year.
The event planning intern will engage in a variety of administrative and operational duties, encompassing support for event setup, venue preparation, and post-event cleanup. The role requires multitasking across different projects, prioritizing tasks effectively, and communicating clearly with internal stakeholders, vendors, and event participants. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are crucial, as the intern will manage records, inventories, planning documents, and schedules. Additionally, the intern must provide excellent customer service and demonstrate a collaborative mindset, working well both independently and within a team environment.
This internship offers a rich learning experience in hospitality and event management by exposing the intern to venue logistics, vendor relations, budget tracking, and event evaluation practices. The position requires a commitment of up to 29 hours per week for about four months, with work primarily conducted in an office environment and occasional attendance at events or meetings. Evening or after-hours event support is sometimes necessary, making flexibility a key aspect of this role. It is important to note that this position is not remote and requires in-person attendance.
Wages for this internship range from $20 to $25 per hour, paid bi-weekly. This is a non-exempt position without benefits eligibility, focused on providing students with professional development and exposure to real-world event planning challenges and solutions. Overall, this role is ideal for a motivated individual looking to develop their skills in a supportive organization committed to sustainable community progress and excellence in service delivery.
