Job Description
Platte River Power Authority is a community-owned, joint action agency that provides reliable wholesale electricity and related services to its four owner communities in Northern Colorado. As a not-for-profit organization, Platte River stands out by emphasizing sustainable energy solutions and fostering community growth and collaboration. The Authority is committed to maintaining a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible power system, supporting economic development, and enhancing the quality of life in the communities it serves. With a reputation for operational excellence and integrity, Platte River actively invests in the development of its workforce and prioritizes fostering inclusive and engaging workplace experiences for its employees.
The Event Planning Intern position at Platte River Power Authority offers valuable exposure to the operational side of event management in a dynamic and professional environment. This internship is targeted toward students currently pursuing degrees in hospitality, event management, or related fields, providing them with hands-on, practical experience in planning and executing a variety of corporate and community events. Working up to 29 hours per week for approximately four months, this part-time, temporary role enables interns to develop key skills in administrative support, coordination, communication, and project management. Through assisting with significant year-end business meetings, ribbon-cutting ceremonies, holiday appreciation parties, and other celebrations, interns will become familiar with the full lifecycle of event coordination, including venue setup, logistics management, communication with internal and external stakeholders, and post-event evaluation.
This role requires multitasking and prioritization abilities in a fast-paced environment, with responsibilities that include answering phone calls, organizing files, scheduling meetings, and preparing documents. The chosen candidate will directly support event logistics, timeline creation, vendor coordination, and ensure seamless event execution. They will gain proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 tools such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams, and learn to collaborate effectively within a team while also working independently. The internship offers the chance to develop strong customer service skills and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities while maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound judgment. Candidates will benefit from professional development opportunities covering event planning strategy, hospitality management, vendor relations, and business event operations, making this an excellent stepping stone for a future career in event planning and hospitality management.
