Job Description
Platte River Power Authority is a community-owned, wholesale electricity generation and transmission provider operating in Northern Colorado. They focus on providing reliable, affordable, and environmentally responsible electric power to their four owner communities: Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont, and Estes Park. As a publicly-owned utility, Platte River Power Authority emphasizes sustainability and innovation, with ongoing efforts to transition towards more renewable energy sources while ensuring the electric grid remains stable and efficient. Their commitment to community partnership and customer service positions them as a pivotal organization in Colorado's energy landscape.
The Event Planning Intern position at Platte River Power Authority offers an exciting opportunity for students currently pursuing a degree in hospitality, event management, or related fields to gain practical, hands-on experience in event coordination within a professional office environment. This internship is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to the planning and execution of various organizational events, including employee appreciation celebrations, business meetings, and community engagement activities like a ribbon-cutting ceremony. During the semester-long internship lasting approximately four months, the intern will play a key role in supporting all phases of event planning. This includes assisting with logistics coordination such as venue setup, catering, vendor management, and ensuring smooth day-to-day execution on event days. Besides event responsibilities, the intern will also handle administrative tasks like answering phone calls, organizing files, scheduling meetings, and preparing documents, providing a well-rounded office experience.
The internship is part-time, capped at 29 hours per week, and offers a competitive pay rate ranging from $20 to $25 per hour. Candidates must be available to work on specific dates, most notably December 5, which involves commitment to all-day and evening hours to support a significant event. While the role primarily takes place in the office, there will be occasions where the intern attends or supports after-hours meetings and social functions, emphasizing the need for flexibility and a keen interest in event hospitality. This internship is non-remote; candidates should be prepared to work on-site to maintain direct communication and coordination with the internal team, vendors, and stakeholders.
Ideal candidates are detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, able to juggle multiple projects and prioritize tasks efficiently. Strong communication skills and a customer service mindset are essential to foster collaboration and ensure events run successfully. Importantly, Platte River Power Authority values candidates willing to support their team wherever needed, contributing positively to the workplace culture. With this internship, students will not only develop professional skills in event planning strategy and logistics but also gain valuable insights into vendor relations, budget tracking, and event evaluation processes. Overall, this opportunity is perfect for aspiring event planners or hospitality professionals looking to augment their academic knowledge with practical work experience in a community-focused utility organization.
