Job Description
Marriott International stands as a leader in the hotel and hospitality industry, renowned worldwide for its commitment to excellence, innovation, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. As a global hospitality company, Marriott International operates a broad portfolio of hotels and related lodging facilities, including the JW Marriott brand, which represents a collection of luxury hotels located in major cities and desirable resort destinations around the world. The JW Marriott brand exemplifies Marriott's dedication to creating extraordinary experiences for guests by ensuring a perfect balance of luxury, comfort, and genuine service.
This opportunity is for a full-time, non-management position based at the JW Marriott located at 555 Canal St, New Orleans, Louisiana. The position offers a competitive hourly wage of $18.50, and preference is given to candidates with open availability to meet the dynamic needs of the food and beverage operations and banquet event services. Given its location in vibrant New Orleans, the hotel must maintain exceptional standards of service to accommodate both local and international guests, particularly within its food and beverage and banquet departments.
The role primarily involves supervising banquet operations to ensure that event preparations, service quality, and guest satisfaction standards are consistently met or exceeded. Responsibilities include organizing banquet event spaces by ensuring cleanliness, proper setup of furniture and equipment, and compliance with the hotel's quality and safety standards. This role requires active communication with guests, employees, and cross-departmental teams to promptly address and fulfill special event requirements and resolve any potential issues. In addition, the position involves overseeing the appearance and attire of service staff, guaranteeing teamwork and a professional atmosphere among team members.
This supervisory position also encompasses tasks related to staff management such as assisting in the hiring process, providing training, scheduling shifts, conducting evaluations, offering guidance, enforcing discipline, motivating staff, and ensuring overall team cohesion. Another essential aspect of the job is maintaining comprehensive records and documentation to support operational and quality assurance processes.
A critical component of the position is adherence to Marriott's safety policies and procedures, reporting any maintenance or safety concerns, completing required safety training and certifications, and supporting company efforts in preserving confidentiality and protecting company assets. Physical demands include lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds independently, as well as supporting teammates with heavier loads, and the ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods during work shifts.
The ideal candidate will possess at least one year of related work experience and one year as a supervisor, with a high school diploma or equivalent such as a GED. The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills to foster positive working relationships, communicate professionally with guests and coworkers, and manage team dynamics effectively.
Marriott International is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and encourages candidates from all backgrounds, including veterans and individuals with disabilities, to apply. The company promotes a welcoming environment that values the unique contributions of every team member. As part of JW Marriott, employees experience a culture that prioritizes employee well-being, comprehensive training, career development opportunities, and the chance to be part of a global hospitality community. If you seek to deliver exceptional guest experiences and grow your career in a luxury hotel setting, this role offers an excellent platform to achieve those goals. Join Marriott International where you can do your best work, realize your purpose, be part of an incredible worldwide team, and become your best self.
