Job Description

The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP) is a well-established non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the economic vitality and the overall quality of life in Downtown Pittsburgh. Through a diverse range of initiatives including public space activation, event programming, clean and safe services, transportation solutions, economic development programs, advocacy efforts, and strategic marketing, PDP plays a crucial role in shaping a vibrant and inviting urban environment. The organization is committed to creating a dynamic and inclusive downtown experience that fosters community engagement and supports local businesses as well as residents.

As part of its mission to cultivate an active and thriving downtown, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership is currently seeking part-time Event Staff members to join its Special Events team. This role is integral to the success of various programming events held throughout the year, such as Picklesburgh, WorldSquare, Mini Golf activations, Oktoberfest, and several holiday-themed events including the Holiday Market, Holiday Kidsplay, and Light Up Night. The Event Staff will work under the direction of the Event Operations Manager for scheduling and report to an Event Manager on-site during events. These positions are designed for energetic, flexible, and collaborative individuals who enjoy working in fast-paced, outdoor environments and contributing to memorable public experiences.

The role involves a variety of responsibilities focused on creating a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and ensuring operational efficiency at all PDP events. Duties include assisting with the setup and teardown of event infrastructure such as staging, tents, signage, audio, and lighting equipment. Staff must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods while maintaining a positive and proactive attitude. Beyond physical tasks, Event Staff are expected to communicate effectively with teammates and supervisors to address any issues that arise during events promptly. This includes problem-solving, conflict resolution, and providing hands-on support across multiple event stations as needed.

Ideal candidates will have prior experience in event operations and a strong customer service orientation, with excellent communication skills and an ability to multitask effectively. The role requires resilience in changing weather conditions and the ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as event schedules dictate. Staff members must obtain clearances including Pennsylvania Criminal History, Child Abuse History, and FBI Criminal History checks. Compliance with dress code standards, including wearing closed-toe shoes and PDP-provided branded clothing, is mandatory to ensure safety and present a professional appearance.

By joining the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership as part-time Event Staff, individuals become an essential part of an organization that actively shapes the cultural and economic landscape of Downtown Pittsburgh while gaining valuable experience contributing to high-profile public events. This opportunity offers a rewarding blend of outdoor work, community engagement, and the chance to be part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to making Downtown Pittsburgh a vibrant, safe, and welcoming place year-round.
