Job Description
University of Louisville Hillel is a pivotal entity dedicated to enriching Jewish campus life through innovative programming and student engagement. Operating as part of the larger Hillel International network, which is the largest Jewish campus organization worldwide, University of Louisville Hillel plays a significant role in fostering community, inclusivity, and connection among Jewish students and the broader community in Louisville. This organization is committed to creating lasting Jewish experiences and leadership opportunities that resonate with contemporary young Jewish adults and the surrounding community. Hillel International was founded in 1923 by Rabbi Benjamin Frankel with a mission to convey Jewish civilization to new generations. Today, it supports nearly 1,000 colleges and universities across North America and the globe, impacting thousands of students annually.
Hillel Louisville offers a unique full-time dual-role position at the Trager Family Jewish Community Center, where one professional will serve as both an Event Manager and a Hillel Program Manager. In this capacity, the individual will split their time between organizing community-wide programming and directly engaging with university students. The Event Manager role, requiring approximately 28 hours a week, focuses on planning, executing, and managing a diverse array of recreational, cultural, educational, and social events that build a strong sense of belonging within the JCC community. Responsibilities include logistical coordination, volunteer management, and collaboration with other programs like AgeWell and the Louisville Jewish Film Festival.
About 12 hours each week are devoted to the Hillel Program Manager role, concentrating on the University of Louisville campus. This facet emphasizes student engagement through thoughtfully planned programs that reflect cultural, religious, and social dimensions within Jewish life. Working closely with student leaders and university partners, the program manager will strategize and implement student events, nurture leadership skills, and ensure programming aligns with Jewish values, pluralism, and inclusivity.
This position offers a compelling opportunity for candidates passionate about community engagement, event coordination, and Jewish life, requiring flexibility to work some evenings and weekends, including occasional Shabbat events. The role demands strong organizational skills, communication competence, and an ability to connect with diverse populations, from seniors in the broader Jewish community to dynamic college students. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, comfort with social media, and adaptability to new technologies are essential. The position is primarily located at the Trager Family JCC, with regular activities at the University of Louisville Interfaith Center.
