Job Description
The hiring establishment is a hotel located at 200 W 12th St, Kansas City, Missouri, United States, 64105. This hotel is owned and operated by an independent franchisee, Avion Hospitality, which is separate from Marriott International, Inc., and solely manages all aspects of employment policies, including hiring, firing, discipline, staffing, compensation, and benefits. Avion Hospitality operates with a strong commitment to delivering excellent guest experiences while maintaining professional standards in event management and hospitality services.
The role offered is for an Event Manager at this full-time, management-level position, which involves overseeing and achieving assigned convention and event goals that contribute to the hotel's overall performance. The Event Manager plays a pivotal role in servicing clients and groups while adhering to contracted food and beverage minimums. This position involves close collaboration with the Director of Event Management and Director of Sales to meet the hotel’s revenue targets, enhance meeting planner satisfaction scores, and achieve food and beverage objectives for the property. The Event Manager is expected to work diligently and flexibly to fulfill job responsibilities, including the occasional requirement of working extended hours to meet the demands of high-profile events and client engagements.
This management role requires a proactive approach to sales and client relations, including conducting solicitation calls and hosting sales tours tailored to the specific needs of the hotel. Monitoring market segment trends and adapting strategies to stay competitive is essential. A strong focus on customer service is paramount, demanding that the Event Manager approach all guest and employee interactions with friendliness, courtesy, attentiveness, and a service-oriented mindset.
The Event Manager is also responsible for adhering to company regulations, standards for catering and meetings, and sales metrics established by Avion Hospitality. Understanding hotel operations and policies, as well as maintaining clear communication across relevant departments, is necessary for seamless event execution. The role requires the timely delivery of banquet event orders while ensuring accuracy, with a maximum turnaround time of 10 days. Any changes impacting operations must be communicated promptly to all relevant teams.
Community engagement and visibility within local and industry groups are encouraged to build strong networks that support the hotel’s business objectives. Participating in and implementing sales promotions and special initiatives, such as sales blitzes, is part of the Event Manager's duties to drive direct sales growth. Regular attendance at daily, weekly, and monthly meetings, along with fulfilling other duties assigned by the General Manager or Director of Sales/Events, is expected.
This position offers a competitive salary starting at $55,000 plus additional benefits including health insurance, life insurance, paid time off, travel discounts, and retirement plans. Candidates with a background in event or catering sales, strong communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are highly desired. The hotel is committed to equal opportunity employment, providing a supportive and dynamic workplace for professionals aiming to advance their careers in event management within the hospitality industry.
