Job Description
Engage! Cleveland is a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering community engagement and leadership within the city of Cleveland, Ohio. With a strong commitment to connecting individuals across various sectors, Engage! Cleveland creates platforms that inspire collaboration, networking, and professional development. The organization hosts multiple signature events and programs annually that are carefully designed to support leadership, build relationships, and promote civic involvement in a way that makes a significant impact at both personal and community levels. Known for its collaborative and innovative approach, Engage! Cleveland is a well-respected entity within the local nonprofit and business communities, celebrated for its ability to unite diverse groups of people around common goals.
The Events Manager position at Engage! Cleveland is a pivotal role within a small, yet highly effective team. This hybrid role is based in Cleveland, requiring the manager to work typically 2-3 days per week on site at the office located at 3135 Euclid Avenue, with the rest accustomed to remote work. As the Events Manager, you will be responsible for the comprehensive planning, execution, and evaluation of roughly 10 major signature events each year. These events include a mix of in-person and virtual programming, some spanning multiple days, requiring skilled coordination and management to ensure seamless delivery. In addition to these signature events, the Events Manager supports numerous other meetings and smaller events through logistical planning such as venue booking, speaker coordination, catering arrangements, and virtual event kit preparation.
The role requires mastery in managing virtual events through platforms like Teams, including technical support and calendar management. You will craft detailed event materials including agendas, speaker lists, presentations, and correspondence such as reminders and thank you messages, showcasing your organizational and communication expertise. Public speaking is also a significant element of the position, and the successful candidate will be comfortable engaging audiences with introductions and remarks.
Managing strategic partnerships related to events, such as venue trades and in-kind donations, and overseeing sponsorship marketing benefits like ticket promo codes and logo placements, are crucial responsibilities that connect the events to broader organizational goals. The role also extends to supporting the governance and leadership framework of the organization by managing committees and councils through agenda creation, meeting coordination, note-taking, and follow-up communication.
The Events Manager supports marketing efforts by collaborating with the marketing team to develop and share social media content, create graphics using tools like Canva, and assist with paid social media campaigns, thereby reinforcing the organization’s brand and event visibility. Additionally, basic office administration duties such as managing phone calls, filing, and email correspondence fall under this role.
This role requires a candidate who is detail-oriented, highly organized, adaptable, and capable of managing competing priorities effectively. They must embody the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Engage! Cleveland and build positive relationships with staff, board members, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners. Although the position involves occasional evening and weekend work, it offers the opportunity to be a key contributor to an organization that values community leadership and active civic participation. Notably, Engage! Cleveland does not offer health benefits but provides a stipend for independently purchasing such coverage.
