Job Description

The University of Alabama is a prominent public research university located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Renowned for its commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and community engagement, the university offers a dynamic and supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff alike. The university encompasses a diverse range of programs and departments, fostering an inclusive culture that promotes personal growth and professional development. As a major educational institution, it also provides ample recreational and event facilities designed to enhance student life and community involvement.

The Department of University Recreation (UREC) plays an essential role in creating recreational opportunities for the campus community by managing a variety of indoor and outdoor facilities, including the Student Recreation Center, Robert E. Witt Student Activity Center, Aquatic Center, UREC Outdoor Pool Complex, Intramural Field Complex, and UREC Tennis and Pickleball courts. This department is committed to fostering a healthy, active lifestyle among students, faculty, staff, and visitors by offering well-maintained facilities, coordinated events, and engaging programming.

Within this vibrant setting, the University of Alabama is seeking an experienced Event Logistics Coordinator to join the UREC Administration team. This is a full-time, salaried position with a pay range from $44,200 to $55,300, classified as E6 level. The coordinator will primarily work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends required to support special events.

The Event Logistics Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of large-scale events hosted within the university's extensive range of recreational facilities. This critical role encompasses event logistics, management, planning, student employee supervision, inventory oversight, and software system management. The coordinator will ensure that all events are executed seamlessly, providing an excellent experience for all clients and participants.

A key element of the coordinator's duties involves supervising and leading a team of student employees to support daily UREC facility operations. The coordinator will also serve as a liaison between various campus departments, student organizations, facility staff, and external clients to schedule and coordinate event requests while ensuring that each event conforms to university policies and safety standards. Revenue accounting, risk management, equipment issuance and inventory, policy enforcement, and injury management also fall within the scope of responsibilities.

In addition to these operational tasks, the Event Logistics Coordinator will engage in administrative activities such as payroll processing, budgeting, and accounting. The role demands strong organizational and multitasking abilities, excellent communication skills, and the capability to mentor and develop student employees. The successful candidate will demonstrate a customer service orientation and the ability to cultivate partnerships across the university community.

The Department of University Recreation emphasizes an inclusive and supportive environment, encouraging the coordinator to contribute to creating a more hospitable and respectful workplace. The position requires completion of relevant training related to laws and regulations that enhance safety and workplace culture.

Candidates must meet specific minimum qualifications, including a bachelor's degree with some event planning or coordination experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid U.S. driver’s license and compliance with university age and driving regulations are mandatory. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in recreation administration or related fields and at least two years of facility management experience within collegiate or municipal recreation settings.

The University of Alabama is committed to equal employment opportunity, ensuring all qualified applicants receive fair consideration regardless of legally protected status. A background investigation is required prior to hiring, but a prior conviction does not automatically disqualify a candidate. Prospective employees will undergo an individualized review process to assess any prior convictions or behavioral concerns.

This opportunity offers not only a chance to contribute to exceptional event management and facility operations but also to play a meaningful role in supporting student leadership development and enhancing campus life. The Event Logistics Coordinator position at UREC represents a vital link in the university's efforts to provide exemplary educational and recreational services to its community.
