Job Description
U.S. Hunger is a dynamic nonprofit organization committed to combating hunger across the United States by organizing meal packing events that feed those in need. With a remarkable track record of providing over 190 million meals to communities nationwide, U.S. Hunger has established itself as a leader in hunger relief efforts. The organization engages with diverse partners, including corporations, schools, congregations, and community organizations, to coordinate impactful volunteer-driven meal packing events that make a tangible difference in fighting food insecurity. This role is part-time and offers a flexible event-based schedule, providing an opportunity for individuals passionate about social impact and community engagement to contribute meaningfully while maintaining flexibility in their work schedule. The position pays $20 per hour and requires candidates to be based in the Newark, New Jersey area due to the frequency of events held locally and the necessity to travel from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) for other engagements. Travel expenses for these events are fully covered by the organization.
As an Event Lead, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the execution and volunteer management of U.S. Hunger's meal packing Hunger Projects. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure successful, engaging, and impactful events that foster positive experiences for volunteers and partners alike. Event Leads act as the central point of contact on event days, managing logistics, staff, and volunteer coordination to guarantee events run smoothly and efficiently. You will have the exciting opportunity to travel regularly to lead volunteer events of various sizes and scopes across the country. The role requires physical strength and stamina, as it involves loading and unloading shipments, event setup, and engaging actively with teams on site. In addition to managing day-to-day event operations, you will serve as an ambassador for U.S. Hunger, providing excellent customer service, fostering a welcoming atmosphere, and effectively communicating the organization’s mission to various stakeholders.
Training for this position is comprehensive, encompassing one full-day virtual training, a multi-day in-person training session in Central Florida (with travel and accommodations covered), and four subsequent virtual training days. This thorough preparation ensures that Event Leads are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to lead successful events and handle logistical challenges effectively. The position is ideal for energetic, detail-oriented individuals with strong interpersonal skills, public speaking confidence, and a dedication to making a positive impact on the community by fighting hunger. With up to 75% travel required, this role is suited for candidates who enjoy a dynamic work environment, are comfortable in loud and crowded settings, and have the physical ability to meet the demands of manual labor and long hours on their feet. By joining U.S. Hunger as an Event Lead, you will be part of a mission-driven team that values enthusiasm, teamwork, and the power of community service to change lives.
