Job Description
The City of North Liberty proudly operates the Hy-Vee Center & Amphitheater along with Centennial Park, providing premier venues for community events, private celebrations, and public programs. As a government entity, the City focuses on creating enriching experiences through well-coordinated events, emphasizing professionalism, community engagement, and guest satisfaction. The Hy-Vee Center & Amphitheater serve as key cultural and entertainment hubs, offering an array of facilities equipped to accommodate a diverse range of events, from weddings and corporate gatherings to public festivals and performances. Having built a strong reputation for excellent customer service and high standards of facility management, the City continually strives to enhance event execution and visitor experience.
The Event Lead position at the Hy-Vee Center & Amphitheater is a crucial role that directly impacts the success of events hosted at these facilities and other City venues throughout Centennial Park and beyond. This part-time role, scheduled for up to 29 hours per week with an hourly wage of $18.50, is perfect for individuals passionate about the event industry who thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Under the general direction of the Event Coordinator and in collaboration with fellow event staff, Event Leads are responsible for leading and assisting with the setup, execution, and teardown of events, ensuring everything runs smoothly from start to finish.
This position requires a blend of leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills as Event Leads regularly serve as the primary point of contact for private renters during their events. They must be well-versed in the facilities’ capabilities and policies, able to anticipate and resolve issues promptly, and maintain a positive attitude under pressure. Event Leads work closely with third-party vendors, caterers, and cleaning companies, coordinating arrivals and managing event logistics to guarantee seamless operations.
In addition to event operation duties, Event Leads represent the City in a professional and exemplary manner, providing tours of the facilities to prospective renters and ensuring excellent customer service throughout guest interactions. They are also responsible for enforcement of rental policies, assisting guests with facility accommodations such as wheelchair access and assisted listening devices, and managing facility security including monitoring access and reporting concerns.
Event Leads play an active role in setting up event infrastructure — moving tables, chairs, and event equipment — as well as performing opening and closing duties during their shifts. Being comfortable operating audio/visual equipment like projectors, speakers, and lighting systems is essential, as is the ability to troubleshoot minor technical issues to support event success. The role also involves handling cash and credit card transactions for concessions and rentals, maintaining event records, and contributing positively to the work atmosphere by collaborating with various City departments including community relations, library, parks, recreation, fire, and police.
Candidates for this position should have an interest or experience in event coordination or management and possess strong communication and customer service abilities. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required, reflecting the nature of most events at these venues. Selected candidates receive comprehensive training including bloodborne pathogens, CPR, and First Aid to ensure safety and preparedness.
Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and 75 pounds with assistance, operate equipment in diverse indoor and outdoor environments, and endure varying noise levels. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are necessary due to the multi-site nature of events. Additional job demands include potential adherence to dress codes or uniforms based on event specifics.
This rewarding role offers an engaging opportunity to be involved in the heart of community events, delivering memorable experiences for residents and visitors while contributing to the cultural vitality of North Liberty’s public spaces.
